#NGNY22 - Happy NoGear New Year!

Well folks, as they say around here, the ball is on the slates for me in NGNY. I’d like to pretend it was just a small slip but I’d be kidding myself. It was vaguely weirdly justifiable… I’d been considering getting an A4 Mk1 for a good couple of months at the end of last year and thought I’d make it through the year but then I saw a deal too good to pass up on from a fellow Elektronaut. Then, following close on from that another Elektronaut had a great deal for a Shruthi with the Polivoks filter. It’s the only synth sale I’ve ever regretted (and I’ve sold plenty over the years) as I thought I’d be fine with my other Shruthi’s and having a polivoks filter in my Eurorack. But I really missed it and never thought I’d see one for sale…

Now, I could almost try and justify those as being quite distinct from my previous habit of buying/selling when things are vaguely curious. Especially as the money I’d been saving had gone into my mortgage which counts as a very sensible thing to do!!! Then, I saw the first Syntakt videos. You can guess what happened there…

However, I am committed to getting back on the horse and making it through the rest of the year. Hopefully you’ll still have me around and I’ll be reading the thread for it’s inspiration! So much so that I’m going to attempt to atone by having a clear out soon/de-clutter and focus on my core setup (and recent transgressions!!).

Covid 19 finally caught up with me. This far I’ve been amazed that even though I see around a hundred people every day in my shop, I’ve stayed healthy. Not anymore. Even though I have the chills and a fever and constant sneezing etc. this really feels like a holiday. Can’t think about work or my company finances when I’m too busy coughing and wiping my nose. There’s really nothing to do except rest.

The first day went by watching season one of Moonlighting. Haven’t seen these since they came out in 1985. Somewhat sexist and a lot of the banter between young Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd is nerve wracking but still offers great nostalgia. Anything more complicated or demanding would be lost on my fever ridden brain.

I plan on getting to know some of my gear better if I feel any better tomorrow. Installed the latest firmwares for all my synths today and also the latest version of Overbridge. Maybe this is the week where I finally learn to program and use my Boss GT-1000 Core. I bought it second hand and never really got to know it before I bought something else which stole my attention. It has a lot of potential but it’s well hidden under the hood and in the editor software. An aqcuaintance asked me recently if I would recommend it and I realized that I don’t really know the answer to that question. That’s what often happens with new gear and me, the frequency of acquisition is so high that I never get to know gear before getting new gear.

A4 was my first synth after Moog Sub37 and love it. It’s great for live performance and sounds amazing. I’ve done shows just with that box using song mode chained patterns.

Are you ok buddy? Had my round a couple of months ago, and that was a very easy ride, but a friend of mine had to go to the hospital with it recently.

I’m good on my set up or at least I could finally say I felt that way. But had some feelings for the DT that I had sold for the OT. And now the Syntakt arrives, got me missing the portability of the DT. Almost thinking of selling my 2 synths so I can port the syntakt around and then just off load to the OT and integrate them together.

But I don’t need it. I am getting inspired by the tracks I’m hearing people put up on soundcloud and here made using the ST. So I will just take a little step back, execute this year on finally getting comfortable with my set up and recording linearly with the OT. Just need to bust out my mixer and hook it to the OT and JUST DO EEET!

I’m quite ok. This morning felt like the worst part was done, but now it seems like the fever is rising yet again. I never really get the fever anymore. As a kid I did but as an adult it’s been very rare. So it’s hitting harder than a normal flu for sure.

I dreamt of toying with my music gear but the fever makes my mind hazy and I’m unable to really concentrate on anything too taxing. An easygoing tv series is probably the best I can do at the moment. Had a small session with my MPC and another one trying to program the GT-1000 Core, but I’m better off just drinking hot blackcurrant drink and resting my head.

same here since I bought tons of year the past few years and need time to really master it and make beats. If I do not buy anything for several years other than cables then I am good.

Syntakt is back in stock this morning.
It is done. :smiling_imp:

Perfectly understandable. If you keep your M:C let’s hear a 14 chord machine evolving pad!

My sound sources are a minilogue XD, m:c, and og machinedrum. Syntakt is like all that in one box. I was holding out hope for an eventual Syntone, but the new dark trinity T-shirts have me discouraged.

Feeling Ok with my run so far. I’m more comfortable playing fretless, listening/learning through the good basslines thread, even the occasional foray into OT’s arranger mode. I get hit with GAS still, but more for streamlining the workflow than expanding it. Maybe in 2023 I’ll just sell all my gear and buy a syntakt, whooo knows

No new gear but new music forthcoming.

The Minilogue XD has proper polyphony – I don’t see Syntakt replacing it!

Hope you are better mate, I finally had my round as well the other week after avoiding it somehow for 2+ years. I distracted myself watching all the Jaws movies one day, nothing too brain taxing there, especially after the first one :shark:

Thanks for all the wishes people. This thread continues to show the best sides of Elektronauts. It’s been a bit heated elsewhere on the forum lately but you can always trust the NGNY -crowd to be nice and civil to each other.
