Yeah, the display is a big downside as well as the games. It feels great, but itâs just silly stuff.

I was thinking of getting a playdate but i donât know if that screen would be a problem, bc no backlight, which is good in a way that I wouldnât play it in my bed but how visible it actually is? Is it a problem in a moderately artificially lit room?
P.s. im ok with the silly games
Iâd say as long it is bright enough to easily read a book itâs bright enough for the Playdate. Viewing angles play a role though.
You have to embrace its limitations for sure.

The overlap between people hating Teenage Engineering for being too expensive and people hating Teenage Engineering because R1 is useless crap is, in hindsight, predictable. The answer in both cases is simply to ignore and/or not buy it, but for some reason that doesnât seem to be an option? Like, the fact that it merely exists is too much to bear?
That certainly explains why an arty design company like TE, whose sole purpose is literally to make concepts exist, is such a frequent target.

I love teenage engineering but hate the rabbit scam, no overlap here. You can like a company and disagree with certain decisions they make.
Does anyone even really know how involved TE are in R1? I assume itâs just the design of the physical unit and nothing to do with the features, software or way it utilises AI.
