New Teenage Engineering products

Looks like config, the big conference for Figma design software.

You can’t imagine how many gazillion prototypes they have in their drawers and sketches.

Design and music instruments lover’s p*rn

As written on the rabbit website itself, Jesper Kouthoofd is Chief Design Officer at Rabbit. As he says in his presentation from config conference, he sees design as a complete discipline of understanding and engineering a product. Therefore i would not expect that he just did the „styling“ of the R1 but has much deeper involvement.
In addition the CEO of Rabbit, Jesse Lyu, joined the board of directors from teenage engineering in 2020. So he seems to have influence on teenage engineering as well.

Interesting they met 10 years ago! Thanks for sharing the link @modulpaule

Just to add I’m not a TE apologist or superfan, I was just pointing out how design/designers can have different levels of engagement and ownership with a product they are part of but not solely responsible for.

I wonder if TE will launch AI infused music products?

He was apparently hired fairly recently, but has had a hand in the design and interaction parts of it from the start as a consultant i think? At least it was a topic in the rabbit thread.

OT Rabbit stuff

This wouldn’t have been such a poorly implemented product had it been a TE company product. I’m not much surprised he got involved from the hype standpoint, TE is afterall a very hype/design oriented company. But wonder how he feels about the sloppy implementation

Wonder how much being involved with this is going to impact TEs product output

On my vision board: EP-200X Arcade II

I’d love to see all kinds of different EP series reworks of the original pocket operators. It would be cool to have multiple ones combined into a single EP-instrument. For example, have po-12 rhythm on track D, po-14 sub on track C, po-16 factory on track B, and maybe a new thing on track A. Same concept for the next generation with the office, arcade, and robot. tonic and speak could also be combined into a new EP-instrument.
Worst case scenario: We’ll only get reskins of the KOII with different sample packs and slight differences like the medieval one.

If they replicate the PO strategy, it will be the latter I fear.

OP-XY :star_struck:

WHAT!!! Make so much sense!

what would an OP-XY be? Like an OP-1 and OP-Z in one? A totally different type groovebox?

OP-XY sounds interesting…non field OP-Z update?
I’d be up for that, as that would likely mean a lower price.

I am actually hoping they’ll make it an OP-Z built in the same style as the KOII. (but different layout)
I mean, simple circuitboard instead of some weird flexible PCB…with conventional parts.
Although, no fader please.

Exciting times

(I don’t think it’s another KOII reskin though…I don’t think they would give it the OP-name)

The name could and should be an engineering name and this could be any manner of regulatory 2.4GHz certification testing for a new product, or it could be that they needed to substitute a component in an existing product and need to re-certify.

X and Y span a 2D surface. So my first guess would be that OP-XY will be a sheet of paper. It’s got some nicely printed layouts and you can use them to write down additional sequences, as there is only one save slot for each sequencer in the OP-1 field. 200€. OP-XY is gonna level the playing field, lol.
People often ask why TE do what they’re doing, so it’s nice to have the Y directly in the name this time.

Jokes aside, I’m psyched! I think a simple update of the op-z with stereo synths and sampling, sturdier hardware, more audio tracks and storage space would be enough to get me interested. But I’m sure they’ve got some surprises up their sleeves, as always.

How about TE just make a sensible device with the proper amount of Memory and Tracks so we can stop with these 80s inspired rehashed bits of nostalgia.

It’s the 21st Century and AGI is on the cusp of changing society and we’re still dealing with 64mb machines.

Really?
