I woke up this morning from a dream where the new box was released. It had 8 dj faders on the left panel, it could automatically isolate and create one-shots from a finished track and the psu had a battery built in that lasted a couple of hours and you could buy a solar panel as an accessory for it in their webshop.

This is what I’m hoping for too. An expansion on the op-1 idea. 8 tracks instead of 4. Better editing workflow. More effects (including some killer tape/saturation sims. They should team up with Sly-Fi and get their Kaya vst onboard for the cassette one 
. Ideally some kind of onboard sampling/sound generation. Portable.
That Elektron picture with the tape got me hyped thinking about it too. But then I thought it’s more the kind of thing you’d see on a mixing desk… God knows. Some solid info would be good now. This whole thread is pretty ridiculous

I like this too. Maybe an ‘external instruments’ machine for the rytm to use one pad to sequence this external sampler and p lock it…
Personally i don’t think it will be analog tape because there is to much overlap with the Octatrack (8 track digital).
And if you want the OT sounding more analog add some tube circuits for saturation into the audio signal before it goes to the OT.

I don’t think there’d be too much overlap with the octatrack really? Trying to use my OT as an 8-track linear audio recorder isnt the most fun I ever had think I gave up after half an hour. Whereas using the op-1 as a 4-track is a totally different experience. But could be much improved/expanded and taken next level by Elektron if they chose to make something like this…
That revox looks beautiful. $4500 Though and it’s playback only 
not to mention it’ll be super hi-fi and not really do the ‘tape’ thing that I look for…

I mean, I could use a mixer that would actually use some of the AR separate outs 
Let’s forget this fixation on the number 8 and let’s not get greedy : nowadays, memory space is nothing 
No need to go reel to reel, I have bad memories of tape strings trying to get out of the reader, no thanks ! An emulation à la Strymon Deco would be plenty enough. This, and ace FX.
Direct USB audio transfer to computer à la OB would be pretty, if not necessary.
… I feel like the FireWire part of My Alesis Multimix 12 FW might no last forever

I think this makes a lot of sense because it addresses a market segment that isn’t really being addressed right now at all. I was thinking something like MX-1, but I have heard that Elektron, for various reasons, may not be able to produce something like that. For example, due to a non-compete. Plus, it isn’t great business sense for Elektron to go copycat, that isn’t their m.o.
Another thing this does is simplify the concept of the Octatrack. It is a sample player and midi sequencer not a DAW in a box. Sure, it can try to be a DAW in a box, but it just falls a little short. Rather than make an Octa II, split the concept. Octa is perfectly fine as a sampler, the things people want it to do is have more inputs, better FX, more tracks, etc. Well, now you don’t need that so much. Octa can do what it is good at, and the new Box can the rest.
