Omg. If these really work it could be a game changer. I am suffering with hearing loss and it has become some annoying over the past few years. I’m visiting my mother right now and when she talks from me from the other room, I can’t even understand what she’s saying. I’m very stubborn and don’t want to wear hearing aid because I don’t wanna look like a old man. if these actually work so many people in the world would be so stoked…instead of spending three or $4000. You can spend 250 bucks. This may really end up hurt the hearing aid industry. Id love to get some reviews from people who have mild hearing loss and have tried these.
My question is will I have to wear the EarPod pros before I put on my studio monitors to get the best results?
To be fair, the cost of standard (not custom / prescribed) hearing aids has come down considerably in the last 20 years or so. You can get a pair off the shelf for as cheap as $50, and for a nicer set, about $200 or $300. They will not work for everyone, but for a large portion of people with mild hearing loss, they work fine. There are many different styles to choose from in the category, including ones that pretty much look like any other wireless earbuds.
Again, those won’t work for every person but they’ve helped family members. I just want to make sure people don’t think that all hearing aids cost thousands of dollars, because they can be quite affordable.
Have they removed the amount of audio ( in particular hihats) that leak when I’m sat on a train near someone listening to music. I actively avoid being anywhere near someone with those in their ears.
Even using my own noise cancelling headphones isn’t always enough to block out that horrendous leaky bullshit.
Although it’s not as bad as people that use the speaker on their phone. That should be banned.
The fuck are you getting your hearing aids?
I’ll wager you can get a proper decent set of hearing aids cheaper than a pair of air pods that ain’t gonna be half as effective as the real thing.
That pricing … it’s a US thing. Insane
Mine were 6k.
Kin Ell! You live in USA?
Fuck me.
You know you could fly somewhere else, have a nice holiday, buy a few sets of hearing aids and still not get close to spending 6k?
Exactly. That’s why I emphasized “not custom or prescribed” in my reply. Unfortunately, anything purchased in the US through a doctor’s office or the healthcare system is going to be insanely expensive. I just want to encourage people who are considering hearing aids to try something cheaper from Amazon or similar before going that route.
I’m not hard of hearing but I have severe eyesight problems and glasses through a doctor’s office cost about $700. $300 after (“good”) vision insurance. But $100 or occasionally less than that if I order online. Ordering online has disadvantages like the risk of poor fit or clarity, and extremely limited frame selection for people with very high myopia. I can sympathize with people who need hearing aids, because I think many have to go through the same kind of trial-and-error process to figure out what will work for them on a daily basis.
The advantage of going to a doctor is having someone who can ensure you get the right device for you, medically and personally. It should not cost anyone thousands of dollars, but it certainly does anyway.
nope, my dad switched about 4 units in the last 6-8 years and they cost a lot, around $2-3k
I hope apple delivers with this, definitely getting him a pair
compared to my Jabras the noise cancellation on the airpods is miles away but it’s not bulletproof, some things still leak through, but if you put even very low music you pretty much isolated
Wait, so now headphones are good for your hearing health?
it’s like saying that prescription glasses are bad for your vision, you don’t wear hearing aid unless you already have hearing issues, obviously for healthy hearing person blasting high volume in headphones is not healthy but hearing aid is not that
the fact apple have built in hearing aid into airpods is great imo, it’s cheaper, easier to replace if broken, it does more then just a hearing aid like phone calls, it already has a built in seal test which means you can have custom tips for better seal and just transfer the tips if you change the headphones in the future, it has modes like conversation awareness which automatically boosts when people talking to you, all these are awesome features for people with hearing issues and elderly people that can use single set for many purposes.
I see your point. I use iphone, ipad, macbook and had airpods in the past, so im totally in the ecosystem. I’m also drawned into buying a lot of apple stuff but highligthning a health feature on a unhealty product is adventurous:
- Do people that have hearing problems have a tendency to hear louder music on the headphones that will further damage their hearing?
- Is hearing loud music on your in-ear headphones at a damaging level, still damaging to a set of damaged hears - So if you dont hear well, you will have to increase the volum even further.
I dont think i hear to bad, even though i djayed and party regulary for a decade and a half, so i am concerned about my hearing health, like we all should. One thing that i always tried to stay away is inear headphones so for me its a strange to apple. It is possible that the answers for my questions above are both “no” but i will still have my reservations about it and i will try to stay away from inear headphones as much as i can.
I can totally understand that people that use hearing aid will apreciate this, i just hope that they will not be a part of a involuntary long longitudinal study
yeah but that’s how hearing aids work, they are in-ear.
people that will use these for that purpose don’t buy them to blast music just so they can hear better the environment, make calls, stuff like that…
whenever I make a video call between my dad and the kids he needs the phone speaker on full volume and even then he can barely hear what they are saying, so most of the time he holds the phone close to his ear and no one can see him and he can’t see anyone too.
he also has trouble hearing them in person unless he got his hearing aid…
I’m pretty sure you don’t need iphone to use airpods, and I doubt that it would be a requirement, at least I hope it won’t be…
One of the reasons I feel the EarPods would be good for me personally is the aesthetics really. I don’t want to walk around looking like I’m wearing a hearing aid. At least with these things it looks like I’m just listening to music.
There are many reviews on YT and lots of these people are saying the Apple work better than their 1000 set of real hearing aids.
Amazon has them for 199.00 so I think I’ll give them a try.
My dads hearing aids are like 3 grand… two Octatracks worth of hearing aids
I can totally understand this, the fact that nobody wants to look like using those easy to spot hearing aids. Despite my rant, i rrally hope that this improves the quality of life of people that need it. It seems that it can also have a important use for the others, that are in a concert or in a noisy area and want to protect their hears. This is gold. Pn the other hand Im looking forward to see the feedback of other health associations than FDA. I have seen a lot of news story regarding advice against prolonged use of inear headphones due to increased humidity in the hears, causing build up of wax and other ear problems. Im also curious how are the regular earing aid apparels in this regard. I love headphones so if this is heaphone 2.0, its safe, and improves our beloved hears, im interested
.
And let us know what you think, once you have them
I’m not sure whether this has been mentioned but these aren’t new Airpods, it’s a free firmware update for the existing Airpods Pro 2 which have been out a couple of years, so if you’ve already got some you don’t need to buy any more
