Yeah that mouse support will have eased the issue of midi editing.
I watched your last video, which was great.
You kept referring to it like an 8 track, like āhaving 2 tracks remainingā; I thought you were just following the Octatrack type workflow but is this because you were leaning on the 8 audio tracks rather than the midi tracks?
I havenāt got MPC3.0 installed yet, but, with disk streaming and the better integration of audio tracks, and the arranger; have Akai inadvertently given us a really good 8-track portastudio?? I could dig that.
Yeah I thought I could only have 8 tracks at the time of filming that. I have since learned better lol
One thing Iāve thought about that seems like a missed opportunity is a proper (non-mini) MPK keyboard that seamlessly integrates with the MPC.
It should basically be something you plug in only when you need the additional expression (I would never buy an MPC Keys 61 because I move around with my MPC way too much), and when you plug it in, itās as if your MPC control surface expands to something closer to an MPC Keys/X. Like, 16 q-link knobs, a dedicated XYFX pad that always works (no need to hit the XYFX button to access it), the touch strip for modulating effects, and mod+pitch wheels - all working seamlessly. Wouldnāt that be kind of sweet?
I know thereās the old MPK261, but it feels dated and it doesnāt integrate with the standalone MPC as seamlessly as Iām describing above.
Good idea!
More realistically, I hope they implement true Q-Links mapping one day instead of Q-Links knobs mapping, so you could map any Q-Links not only these four which are active currently.
A thin mpc one size 16 knobs with screens,XY pad and touch strips and blue tooth.Specially configured for MPC.I would buy straight away.
And I donāt even have an MPC )))
Where can one find out what is the latest Beta release? My MPC says I have the latest version (3.4.0.80), but Iām not sure, since there wasnāt any update since I downloaded the Beta.
How likely do folks think it will be that Akai releases new/refreshed hardware to coincide with the 3.0 firmware?
No one here knows any more than you fella, unless of course one of us is fully made man and in the akai circle of trust⦠new hardware is coming thatās a given, Akai arenāt in business to lose money, but itās anyoneās guess when itāll be arriving⦠if youāre on the fence about purchasing then you could either wait it out or look for a bargain 2nd hand, thereās always plenty of units on various market places⦠Iāve seen og mpc ones go for like 350 gbp which is ridiculously inexpensive for what your gettingā¦
Same with Live IIs, before OS3 was anounced I often saw them trade hands for Ā£500 GBP on eBay. I only paid Ā£600 for mine āopen boxā from a store. I recon if new stuff comes out it will be almost double what you can get the current units for if you shop around.
I love my Akai MPC Live II Retro edition to bits, but sometimes itās good to have another flavour of sequencing. Welcome back home Yamaha QY-700, Iāve missed you. Traded the QY back from a friend today and in the words of Nick Cave: āNo More Shall We Partā.
Third time is the charm. If itās good enough for Squarepusher, it certainly is good enough for me.
Iām happy to guess. I think new hardware next year, trying for 3.0 release before the holiday season to sell some more One Plusās, 37Keys, and as many of the bigger three as possible to thin down the current stock.
Akai releasing 3.0 can actually extend this current gen of MPC for some years. Someone just posted that video of the RAM being increased, if AKai can offer that as a service or board to buy, they keep this gen going for at least another 5 years or whatever.
In short nobody knows what Akai will do next. But all this talk about a new device is kinda first world BS, since most people havenāt even masterd the current gen & seem to want something new just for sake of it.
