MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 3)

Look for leaked spec sheets. It says the step buttons can be used for automation. On the 64 Force pads can be used that pad macros & can have 100s of parameters assigned to them like the macro knobs. Is these step pads work the same you could set them up as track/pad mutes, if they don’t already have that set as a mute/solo/arm mode like the Force.

Oh yeah found it. surely they mean p locking. Setting up punch in fx could be cool too

What a waste having them tucked to the right again. Above screen, with on screen border small sub window is right there for the picking.

Just yes IMO

Those buttons & the touchstrip will take the MPC to another level performance wise. The initial shock of the new design will be old news when people experience it. The potential is beyond most users comprehension. Watch how many people change their mind about all them buttons!

I was thinking about all the extra buttons on Live 3, and I realized something strange: That I don’t really click the jog wheel. In fact, sometimes I even forget that you can.

Wondering if most people’s workflow involves clicking the jog wheel to open things and confirm actions, or if it’s a vaguely non-essential function on the MPC?

I think that most of the time you have to touch the screen before you would use the jog wheel to confirm your selection or open something anyways, so it’s more likely that you have to go from the jog wheel to the screen then back to the jog wheel if you want to use it to select or execute something.

If you feel so inclined, maybe answer the survey for the sake of interest. Results are visible without voting but the vote is set to anonymous.

I clicked the jog wheel so much, that in the very brief time I had an MPCX SE (returned it due to it being a desk bully , sort of regret it), I was getting all sorts of messed up by it having a click-less jog wheel.

No doubt what I want from a modern MPC is not relevant. I’m a relic. But I’ve used them for over 30 years. I got the OG live on release. I had low expectations then. It was already a convoluted mess but it is definitely a workhorse if not the most fun to use. They fixed a lot but left quite a few things janky. I was out with OS3. Not salty either. I have 3 gen of MPC to enjoy.

Yeah, I’m still on a 2 point something OS and mad hesitant to get into a device that can only run MPC3.

I click on Force jog wheel all the time. What I don’t use are its -/+ buttons. On the hack OS they let you reassign buttons. I hope they add that capability.

Assignable buttons would be sick. I never use plus / minus either.

older MPCs aren’t going to get an OS update. They’re gonna screw us. The live 3 will come out and they’ll be like well that was fun, downgrade back to 2 or buy the 3.

this… isn’t going to happen. don’t get yourself worked up like this on a Friday night

Anyway, I laughed a bit at the poll thinking about someone always using the jog wheel, like they’re sitting there as we speak just turning and clicking that thing.

I use it mostly in the browser and when selecting menu items when some sort of overlay or a selector drawer opens. Happens a lot more often than one can even really notice, and the thought of tapping the touch screen on an item in a long list after scrolling on the jog wheel feels very unnatural to me.

I never use the +/- buttons.

This is the real question…

How often do you use the +/- buttons
  • All the time
  • Sometimes
  • Rarely
  • What +/- buttons?

I don’t even remember what they’re for anymore  Anyway, I absolutely agree with what you wrote before, all those buttons and a physical sequencer are an incredible added value. Aesthetically, for me, the most beautiful drum machine in the world has always been the AR Black, but this is obviously on another level, and even if I continue to hope for a new x or key, the Live format is perfect to insert among other instruments like the Elektrons. The only thing even better for me would be an MPC x-key, since the Live is already my MIDI hub today.
But what do you think of the zone pads? I’m a bit skeptical, they seem like a Push-like refinement to me, I can use up to three fingers when I hit the pads

Bro that’s how I make music! All my beats are just made by sampling the jog wheel into a microphone! Only sometimes I switch it up and sample the t +- buttons instead! Great for bass

There is no P-locking on the MPC. But you can do step modulation even with the current OS. Absolutely not the same thing.

I hate influencers so much

  • I do not want to see your face
  • I am not interested in your weird facial expressions
  • I do not need you telling me how to feel

Putting any of these in a video thumbnail is a good way to get me not to watch, all 3 are an indication that you would be better off launched into the sun

Thanks for coming to my TED talk

Disagree. Then you’ll be tweaking the knobs but unable to get visual feedback because most of your hand is covering the screen. Sure that doesn’t matter with a filter cutoff tweak where you can just listen but it’s pain in the ass if you’re editing a complex modulation matrix. Also many MPC screens are dense and you need to page through the q-links to reach every control, if you’re constantly having to lift your hand to see where you are it’s going to get old fast. Clearly the correct solution is to have them sticking out from the sides of the device.

what do they mean 16 step buttons for automation then? I imagine they don’t mean like you set a macro up and use it to record in automation for whatever parameter you set up, seems convoluted vs just doing it whatever way it’s done usually. Like say you set them up as mutes and recording them in, why bother doing that at all when you can already control mutes and record them in
