I want Akai to collab with …

I’d take real time controls and shortcuts over buttons any day. I never had an issue navigating my 2000xl with shift pad shortcuts. I get it it’s a deeper machine so more buttons fine. What they have done isn’t going make it easier to navigate.

Step sequencer on an MPC…. Just no. All they had to do was upgrade internals. Wasting R&D and then real estate on a step sequencer to shoehorn into these is just ass backwards. It’s got 16 pads for a reason.

Gonna give this a watch with my OH. Cheers!

on that we 100% disagree, a step sequencer is great full stop
with the 4x4 pad this means ease of putting down polyphonic / rythmic tracks =
less touchscreen interaction which is among the best difference between MPC and Force IMO

I’m on your team.

nah I’m with you. Maybe the buttons have crazy functionality beyond step sequencing. Can’t really say yet but I don’t think they’re gonna draw in the step sequencer crowd by tacking one onto an MPC. It’s such a huge bold design choice. I feel they’ve tried to take a bite of a market that isn’t interested in them. I’m still eager to see what it’s like on release.

I’m sure the people in the overlap of MPC users and step sequencer users are gonna be excited right now but I’d guess it won’t compete with the step sequencers they already have. I like coffee and I like orange juice but that doesn’t mean I want orange juice in my coffee. Can’t knock it till you try it though?

Did MPC marketing team know in advance of TV and Roland launches, hence this bizarrely bootleg dribble of leaks because they are confident in their product and wanted to have the last word….? Or they are caught flat footed and everyone is working this weekend…I know there is a large core MPC crowd that will always upgrade, but interested to see where the marginal dollar goes, especially in this economy…

They can be used as an automation source/macro pads.

Nah, you’re doing just fine.

The current MPC’s were starting to show discontinued. They kinda needed to do something, people were scratching their heads.

I think the step sequencer on the move was such a great addition. Very happy to see it included here. Sometimes you just want to work that way.

Step sequencer schmep stinkencer…

I just want all those alternate shift functions, whatever they end up being.

But more importantly, will the new generation get a new thread?

pretty sure major brands are always in communication behind the scenes regarding release dates etc

how do we know this? I’m assuming you mean like p-locking? could be beneficial but I still think it would struggle to compete with other step sequencers. macro pads I could take or leave. end up spending more time making templates than music

I can’t tell right now but it looks like it has squishy mpc buttons. I massively prefer clacky elektron style for step sequencing, it’s so much nicer to use. Haven’t looked into the move much to be honest. I’ve tried gummy step sequencing in the launchpad pro and it’s just not the same

I disagree, as do others. What we want isn’t necessarily wrong, what you want isn’t necessarily right.

Also, the MPC already had a step sequencer. This is just making it a hardware rather than just a software component. It serves many functions, and many are pleased. I also understand some aren’t.

I could not possibly disagree more with just updated internals, as clearly they had to make changes to accommodate the current OS for both now and the future. Live 2.15 is in the past. I know some are not pleased here, and I get it and feel for you… but that’s just how it is.

Not to worry, they’ll be there but on every page they will be somewhere different or do something unexpected. The q-links may be vertical, horizontal or even diagonal! Get ready to be bamboozled.

this is a massive part of why I will have to see it to believe it regarding the step sequencer being good. It’s akai lol

The new MPC certainly isn’t for everyone. Thankfully there are plenty of other gears and sequencers to please all.

I dare say you could make one now. be careful what you wish for though. I still get an email every time someone comments on the speculative standalone maschine thread I made in 2019
