MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 3)

they’re basically a middleman if that’s actually an akai part, though… where is that coming from? are they building a replacement themselves?

have you emailed akai to just ask them if they sell that part for user replacement? I could see them insisting that a “hardware repair” isn’t something they’d allow a user to do, but if you’re out of warranty anyway, I don’t see why they wouldn’t just sell you the part directly.

From what I read on Reddit a while back this is pretty close to the akai price.

MPCstuff carries some parts that they buy from akai and this is an OEM part listed above. Reddit had said something like $200 or $220 via akai support.

It’s super overpriced and while the cell may not be proprietary, it’s a very specific voltage and output with a specific terminal so it’s not like you can just grab a cordless phone battery for $30 and call it a day.

14.8V 3350mah and look at all the connectors, that’s a proprietary configuration.

The closest I could find in searching is this spartan tool battery which is still a different wiring loom and the price is $265, not related to akai.

It might be out there, but harder to find the aliexpress version unfortunately.

LiPo’s are dangerous as hell while charging. There are literally charging controlling circuits inside these packs (look for BMC if interested). Sometimes these circuits are implemented outside of a battery pack, on the device side.

MPC has a charger inside, so you can charge battery without taking it out of the device. This charger has some expectations about a battery pack behavior and internal circuits.

That said, I would not recommend to use random battery from the internet even if it has matched parameters, unless it was tested specifically with MPC or you clearly understand how it works and what are you doing.
Otherwise, there is high risk to burn your house. Just check YouTube for “lipo burning”.

And if shit happened, never use water to fight that fire.

Trust me, I don’t plan to. I worked in cellular for a long time so I’ve seen some pretty bad stuff result from even properly spec’d batteries.

Also not planning to pay $250 for a replacement so I’m at a bit of a crossroads. My MPC hold a charge, I think when I timed it I was getting 3 or more hours, but a lot of people claim 5 hours or more, so I suspect that something is going on or that I have some gross misuse of system resources occurring internally.

In my experience with battery life, it’s more often the battery than the device but you never know.

Mpc batteries are lithium ion, not lipo…

Looking at the pack it looks like it’s more than likely four 18650 or similar cells wired in series for the 14v

Okay 3+ doesn’t sound so bad. 3 hours in use or just stand by? I’m currently testing mine.

Standby, no use. I think I had the speaker off too, but I can’t remember. Definitely no use though because I was just testing for standby life since it seemed super low to me.

Right now it’s been two hours and 4 minutes on standby, speaker off. Sitting at 48%

Let me know what it comes out to.

They both are lithium, just slightly different chemicals. Replace LiPo to lithium in my post and it still be relevant. Sorry for this simplification.

Lithium primary, Lithium polymer and Lithium ion all have different characteristics.

The bottom line is that using mismatched batteries on expensive equipment is a bad idea and that is universally true.

Will have to test earlier tomorrow. Will report back, but if today is anything to go by, sounds like mine can go 4 hours on standby. Will be interesting how it behaves when in use

Hopefully that new devise won’t be “Tonverked”, too.

I’m losing my mind having gone almost 3 months with no mpc. I unfortunately decided I had to check myself into rehab in early July, and before I went I sold my Live 2 and SE knowing a new one would be out soon and I didn’t want it to launch while I was gone and the used prices plummet, as my length of stay was open ended.

A little waiting for an MPC is a very small price to pay for what I gained, or rather not lost (my life). I have my Push 3 but I just really don’t vibe with it anymore. Going to sell it most likely once I decide if I do love the new MPC. I just don’t love the synths in comparison to the MPC, or the specialized fx like fly tape, flavor pro, or half time.

Really excited for next week. Assuming it ships Oct 2nd as Alto says, it will come overnight and arrive on my 90 day mark in sobriety.

Thank you! Finally clear headed enough to hopefully move us to a safer part of Atlanta. Never would have been able to do that 3 months ago.

Hell yeah, stoked for you! Congrats.

One of the nice things about Ableton and Push (controller) is that you can use all of the same plugins from standalone in Ableton Live… Macro racks can pretty directly translate into Q-Link assignments… I feel you on Push 3, it can do some wild stuff but it definitely does not work as a stand-in for all of the ways you can get down with an MPC.

Although, something that hasn’t been talked about much / hasn’t been confirmed is MPE compatibility on the new MPC Live 3 pads (and presumably the updated OS), and if they update those premium plugins/keygroups to have MPE support, the Push 3 will end up being a pretty nice playing surface…

Almost there!

I think at least a few people can relate to your sentiments and I wish you the best. I hope that you’ll share some of your work with the live 3 here and would encourage you to put your sobriety above any other distractions as they can put you back into bargaining mode very quickly and I can tell that you’re firm in your resolve and also in your decision to make it out of this, not just through it.

Also looking forward to Akai finally making this official because after the FCC registration the tease is a little much at this point.
