MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 3)

I was so bad I’d take that as a compliment!

Having read enough of your comments, I can safely assume that like me, any academic struggle had way more to do with behavior than intellect.

I was more interested in getting good laughs and girls than grades for most of my scholastic career. No regrets. :joy:

This is why I haven’t even watched one video for the Tonverk. It’s not that the TV doesn’t seem cool. It’s that I’m a late bloomer when it comes to Elektron and not computer savvy enough to even understand what the TV is. I’m waiting for more videos catered to simple folks like me.

Spot on! I act stupid on purpose!

Not fond of the TV nickname as well!

To this I would say skip the videos and just dive in if at all compelled to Elektron bro. Just order from SW, ZZ, GC or somewhere with a liberal return policy.

Despite being nerd boxes they do offer way more than enough for everyone. You need a pragmatic and mathematical mind to master them as they were conceived but not to master what you need to express with them. Atleast that is my experience.

The music I make on my DN2 can only be made on my DN2.

I can’t ever make the same sound or beat from scratch twice. That’s what I love about em. I have no intention of over dweebing myself to master everything possible on DN2 but I learn more every time I switch it on.

I haven’t ever read the manual. Notebook Lm did and I ask it specific things I need in the moment.

My goal is to master myself and use tools that push me further along that journey.

I will likely be getting a Verk (I’ve had hella TVs for decades lol) . It looks like another brilliant sound module to play with wind controllers but I think it needs a bit further development and better pricing. I’ll score one used in a few months for nickels on the dollar secondhand like I did DT2.

I would personally feel ridiculous paying 4x for what I paid for my SP404mk2 for what it does right now. Hell naw.lol.

Oh I’ve got the DTII and DNII. I do love them, but the creativity doesn’t flow as naturally when I use them. I think it stems from learning sequencing and what not from a cracked single digit Reason. I’ve realized recently that I still write like I’m in Reason but with hardware controlled by a sequencer, rather than “in the rack”. I used an MPC as the brain for a few years and then switched to the M+.
I keep thinking about pulling the digi boxes out of the mix and just using the two to write an ep. To see what I’d come up with.

I agree. In my brief experience Elektron workflow doesn’t exactly empower naturally rhythmic creators. It almost even penalizes it in some way. Or, it feels that way for me sometimes.

Where I can just get right to the groove on Maschine, MPC, Roland boxes based on how I feel… I have to already know where I want to go when I sit down with Digitone 2.

Otherwise I’m just gonna make a bunch of noise like 90% of what I hear people do with them on purpose. That isn’t a diss, just observation.

***Just want to clarify that “the bunch of noise” I was referring to above isn’t about other genres. There are tons of really great artists making all forms of music on Elektrons from all over the world. I was referring to the scores of videos of people who have no idea what they’re doing uploading noise that is harmful to my speakers/ears…that’s cool for them if they’re having fun but that’s what I sound like if I don’t go into DN2 with a plan.

Just didn’t want to come off like ohhh if it isn’t this kinda music it isn’t music guy. I’m not that guy at all.

File Managment on Modern MPC’s is even much better than Ableton Live and Push 3 IMO.
It’s just easy to understand.

Indeed. I’m on my iPad dictating this conversation and optimizing my MPC SD card at the same damn time.

Even my machine plus will have a stroke if I use anything but the simplest folder structure and file names.

MPC works like a Mac. So simple. It’s everything I love about my Maschine on steroids.

Does anyone else find it really weird that the left and right balance on almost every single delay effect on any intruments/plug ins in set to hard left?

Am I missing something beneficial here or has someone simply decided that all delays should be hard panned to one side?

I was just talking about plugins or aftermarket software. I think that anything which has to do with hardware and OS transfer is not necessary to get Akai involved.

Sorry if that was not properly conveyed @hausland, I thought that’s what you were asking about specifically so I drew the short line between the question and my response.

…I was playing heavy techno on my Elektrons, but during a break I read your comment and got curious. I opened a Fabric piano and tried three effects: the Delay Pro, a normal delay, and a Diffused Delay, and I didn’t notice this left-hand bias. Maybe you should check your connections and speakers.

Sorry if I explained that badly, not got Fabric so it’s maybe not an issue with that but almost every single Jura and Mini-D preset has the delay Ratio setting hard one way or the other. the Air Delay plug in also has a lot of presets where the ratio is hard one way.

It just feels so odd to me having the delays only appearing on one side.

No cables or speakers to check as I just use my Live Mk2 on its own.

uhm ok I’ll pay more attention to it

Never noticed this with any delays

Is this a ping-pong thing? Maybe your feedback is low and it’s only pinging and not ponging?

 I really like “pinging and not ponging”

are you me?! Same background: (presumably) punk rock and pirated Reason. I have had the hardest time adjusting to modern electronic music gear and writing tools. It’s too damn smart!

My brain doesn’t want patterns or groups or clever blocking, just copy and paste them notes!

MPC broke my brain though and I had to sell it… I am kinda interested to see how v3 is… but yeah. I’ve been working through Digitakt 2 tutorials for a year very slowly… honestly im not sure I’ll ever feel as free as I did with that mess of a software that was reason 3.

I think I just don’t like not being able to see the whole picture at all times. I work all day on a computer now, and it’s the last thing I want to do when I’m done with work. It just sucks, I can’t escape the screen.
