Yeah with the crossfader

Someone needs to get a hold of the 2.15 source code and build a JJOS off the back of it except this time it’s about stripping things back down to essentials rather than expanding on them.

Interested to see how this is gonna hit the used market - had been assuming for a long time that it would tank when new hardware dropped, but at that price possibly it might even drive it up a bit. Usually the new model becomes a yardstick for the older versions, especially with this one being significantly more expensive plus the older ones can run the same OS…

Exactly. Now with the MPC song mode & sequences there’s 128 arranger sequences letting quickly come up with different variations with the same set of clips. No more tedious workaround I was forced to use before 3.5.

have you tried the next sequence feature?

I’ve always just built it up by hand in song mode, but I should try building a track that way some time.

It’s tricky jumping between next sequence and the mute page. Not because of the operation itself which is simple, but just remembering to do it while you’re breaking down the beat is not always the first thing on my mind. Especially if yoh’retrying to babysit 20 different pad mutes at once.

You can set up a chain of sequences though, but for some reason I’m drawing a blank on what that utility menu is called. Maybe arranger?

Oh yeah, song mode - song mode isn’t a bad way to build out a track. I just get annoyed because I end up with a bunch of sequences that are all the same except for mutes.

Reminds me, something I liked about the Octatrack’s arranger is mutes were something you set in each line of the arranger, not in the individual sequences.

This lead to me jamming with all those seqs & muting tracks off/on then left not knowing original mutes states, but not wanting to reload because I did too much before without saving. Now I have to go thru everything & try to get the mutes state back or come up with a new set of mutes tracks.

I never liked the mute track approach. Clip-matrix let’s you not have to keep track of mutes. Instead, don’t use that clip on a scene, but you can still play it by tapping that clip on another scene.

With the new scene follow you don’t even have to use the arranger, but using both the arranger & matrix let’s you can use the scenes to micro manage sections of your composition before you record all of them to the arranger. Using the scenes as a pre-arranger is how I get the best out of the arranger.

I’m thinking of selling my MPC X. I have most of the plugins for it, does anyone happen to know how those would transfer if I sell the hardware? As in can I advertise with them and transfer them for good or would the buyer have a problem if eg they were to reset the device or register it to a new account?

Thanks for any pointers.

Surprisingly, finger drumming on the EP-133’s mechanical switches is pretty playable.

I think akai allows transfer between owners but it’s kind of convoluted. Like, you have to notify akai support, they then deactivate you and the new person needs an inmusic account/profile which they’ll then transfer the licenses to. Anything which uses ilok may require a transfer fee to ilok.

The bottom line is you have to plan around it, I think they intentionally make it a headache so that you won’t do it.

Sounds not great, let’s see how I’ll play that then. I guess I’ll write Akai and see what they come back with. Thank you so much for your response!

Probably something like this “ Thank you for your response.

I want to assure you that these concerns has been forwarded to the right team for visibility. Rest assured, we are actively working on a solution, and I encourage you to stay updated by checking our product pages and social media for any future announcements.

We truly appreciate your loyalty and continued support!”
Or in other words lies

I’ve had limited interaction with Akai support but on each occasion they were very quick to respond and solved my account issues without any fuss. No drama.

Hausland are you just getting rid of the X for desk space ? Or for the next X successor ?

yeah theyre actually great with support. i mean about “I encourage you to stay updated by checking our product pages and social media for any future announcements.”

File Org is probably the most underrated factor in being a productive artist and another of the main reasons I’m really loving MPC. Folders within folders within folders. Folder shortcuts. Smart tagging. Fav patches. Dog easy to find whatever you’re looking for quickly. It all just works.

Conversely, most other rigs are primitive and/or overly sensitive to folder structure, characters, etc and require way too much mental gymnastics.

I know that only the MPC2/3 license transfers automatically because I can no longer access my projects on the PC as it’s asks me to authenticate. But all plugins remain in my possession. I have no plan to sell those plugins thoughbas I enjoy using Air Delay Pro in Ableton as much as I enjoy it on the MPC itself.

But if you do want to sell them, I’m sure @shigginpit is right that there’s a way to transfer them too.

One super plus for the touch screen is the ability to name stuff so easy. I end up abbreviating things with the DN and after a while it’s a mess! Not that the DN is bad, I just don’t have the patience at times!
