Mine also died in my MPC X, now I just run an SD card, so far no problems, let’s see how / if that will change when disk streaming becomes a reality.

ya…I don’t know what to put in there. is the SD gonna be slower than SSD with streaming? the smaller GB size of the SD is more than the larger SSD.
I had $150 500GB Samsung in there. highly rated. won’t buy one of those again any time soon. [that was 5-6 years ago]. now im looking at a Sandisk 500GB that’s like $45. I can’t really even afford that. but as it is, I have NOTHING to do at night. so I can skip some stuff, perhaps, to get that $45 drive. but im worried it’ll shit the bed before too long at $45.
anyone have any experience with the Sandisk SSD?

Believe it or not 5 years is pretty decent lifespan for an ssd, that’s not to diminish the situation though, it’s always a blow when you lose your data like that…

On the Force it’s about the same, but I never pushed it to the max to really test it. I wouldn’t worry about unless you need to. Getting the fastest card isn’t always the best option if the speed will be limited to how fast the MPC can move stuff.

well hoping it’s just the drive, and nothing to do with MPC. I just didn’t think an SSD had such a short lifespan. I guess the MPC must constantly be read/writing to the drive. That apparently shortens their lives [so I’ve read]. I really should have just backed up to computer. 
I use the SSD in the Force as my main data storage & use the SD as the back up & take that out to save it to my PC. I could do it using PC mode but my USB port is kinda broken on the Force. It still works but I try not to use. Some sort of backup system it mandatory.
That blue piece broke off in the Force after something fell on it. I just pulled the 4 metal pins back that’s in the port & push the cable in there.

Yeah, the really high end stuff lasts longer, but it’s way expensive, its the writes that do the damage, have you got an old portable hdd you could plumb in to check the mpc isn’t at fault first or swap the ssd into its enclosure to hook it up to a pc to see if it fires up? Maybe run a check disk on it and see if just corrupted and salvageable, might be able to grab some of your data back…

The concern I had is with the sata connector. They installed mine upside down, naturally. So it was hard to maneuver it to the right orientation so the drive could be mounted inside.
I’m a Mac guy, so all I have is usb3 ports. Can’t test the SSD drive. I’m gonna hold onto it in case I find myself in a situation where I can see it. But I’m assuming/hoping it’s just a dead drive.
I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill. With shit like this I wouldn’t make as much of a deal. I don’t really like my tunes. I don’t lose sleep over losing tracks. Its just all the shit going in that keeps piling on…don’t feel like I can catch a break. And the MPC is the only thing I have to do in my downtime…I can’t even watch tv let alone play a little Rainbow Six to take the edge off. So…I kinda blew a tube when the MPC took a dump.
I won’t take out any other gear I brought with, in fear of something happening to them as well. I would legitimately lose it if I wrecked my MD.

@palm I only know bits and pieces from what I’ve seen on a couple threads but I’m really sorry you’re going through all this right now. I don’t have any advice to offer on the subject of the hard drive but I’m rooting for you to find a solution.

Thinking of buying an MPC Key 37, which would be my first MPC-anything. Quick question since I know very little about the software so far: can I record external audio into the MPC at the same time as I am recording myself playing a plugin (or samples) on its keyboard? Or do I need to do so separately?
Hopefully that made sense.
It is possible to record MIDI with a keyboard and record an audio track simultaneously.

okay…good news and weird news. I go pick up the $45 drive. check a refresh on installation and formatting for MPC via controller mode, and how the drives are accessible that way a-la OT. for the hell of it I put the busted drive in just to see if it would show up and would be readable by my computer, or worst case be able to be formatted, expecting a dead drive.
well SHIT…wtf…I see all my shit. so I copy to my computer just in case, switch to standalone and there is all my shit.
cool I just bought an opened a new drive. I guess I’ll hold onto it in the case my shit fails.
I dunno what it did or happened, but the MPC sees the original drive I put in. 
maybe plugging in the new one, removing it, and putting the old one back in…did something?
anyways, backing up now. thanks to all that offered support.

I don’t think I could anyways. its was opened. I was intending on holding it just in case. I was thinking the same…that this may be its last breath.
