MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

Yes, I’m similar with Ableton… I don’t like working with Operator and its UI, or adding Ableton stock plugins to the chain, but I don’t doubt the sounds made by other people can sound amazing.

I’m not a big user of the MPC synths myself btw, but I do think if you dig in all the tools you need are there… especially when you start adding FX/plugins to the synths. I don’t think there are many synth sounds not covered by the MPC at this point if you know what you’re doing, but I can see how if your just preset browsing in the synths it might seem sterile.

I think the presets do not show the full range of the plugins for sure. Just as setting all the knobs to noon on a distortion pedal doesn’t show it’s full breadth.

Well that’s the track in my opinion,
I’m with you on this… when I recorded something and ‘enhance’ it in my DAW, all the magic is lost, the MPC is in this regard a middle-man, the unfinished got more finished, but not to much

Exactly. Never judge a synth by it’s presets.

We never would’ve gotten the chainsaw without diming the knobs.

Yeah, I had the same initial read actually, so I understand how you read it as a tad superior. But indeed it’s all a matter of taste.

Except…Jura is objectively good, it’s scientifically proven. So come on @circuitghost, give it another try! :joy:

If you get the urge, hit us up with some audio examples?

Not sure if anyone else is interested, but it could be a fun little challenge to try to emulate a sound using only the MPC synths and effects

Any MPC synth -> Flavor Pro on max destruction > Heavy Compression -> Resample, Chop and add even more Flavor Pro. Rinse and repeat = Profit.

Yes!

Also the free addon, Air Vintage Filter, lowpass with ”fatness” turned upp high. Sounds great. And it has a free running LFO iirc

Yeah vintage filter is awesome as well. Especially on hihats or percussion for some gritty movement.

I’ve said this in the past - I’d prefer a cut down, sample-only MPC (with a lower price, thanks) despite the fact that I can obviously just ignore the instruments if I apply a little willpower.

But of course I would like some effects, and there’s the respect that makes calamity of the whole idea. So I just make do with the SP, though what I really want is some middle ground between the two - the sample focus of the SP and the in-depth editing of the MPC. So that’ll be an earlier model MPC, I suppose.

All this talk about the built in synths and effects not being up to snuff for a few users is probably their mind telling them to buy more gear!

Easiest way to talk yourself into a purchase is making it a necessity!

A big part of the SP’s is the FX’s & no earlier MPC (maybe the 4k Idk it’s FX list) had many FX. The closest MPC to the SP is the One, but you’d have to use will power to not use some of the MPC features to make it like an SP. This is why some want an MPC Mini.

And simplicity! I say it all the time but the SP at its core is the easiest sampler out there.

It could also be that because they already have a lot of gear, they have “higher” standards & or, are use to presets sounding a certain way from the get go.

In my case, quite the contrary. I’m happy with what I get from Logic, as far as instruments and effects go, and if anything, the MPC plugs I’ve tried just confirms I don’t need them. Nor am I eyeing other hardware or other plugs, from any system, right now.

And that’s my only point. I don’t need them. And that’s it.

Anything else I might’ve said to give another impression, is bad phrasing on my part, for which I apologize. I’m not a native speaker, so my intention doesn’t always come across as … well, intended.

As in, providing audio examples of patches I’d love to hear on the MPC? I can do that. I would love to be taught how to work the onboard instruments better.

My bad, thought I read you wanted another synth to pair with the MPC.

Not poking fun at anyone, it’s what I do when making a purchase! Talk myself out of what I have so I can talk myself in to the new shiny thing!

Yeah, no worries  no, I’m done buying stuff. Even getting the MPC was a bit of a stretch, though I’m enjoying the ride right now, not in the least because it’s so different from kits I’ve owned so far.

Exactly! Awesome!
I’m not an expert sound designer, but it could be a fun experiment, especially if we get some different angles from people
