Why is it so hard to accept that not everything is for everyone? I’m actually in the process of getting rid of things (see my thread about downsizing) which is why I tried the MPC’s synths and the Push 3 in the first place. As it turns out, neither’s built-in synths suit me.
Bingo. I prefer the way my other things sound and the way they work.
That said, I don’t use presets generally, and I’m a bit puzzled at the implications in posts above that mine and others distaste for Jura is because I’m simply preset surfing. I simply don’t like it, it doesn’t add anything to my setup/ workflow/ whatever, and I shouldn’t need to defend my opinion on something as personal as my own artistic process.
I was never much into the original built-in plugins on the MPC but the quality of sounds that can come out from Jura and OPx4 and fabric are pretty great. Mini D and Jura are pretty fantastic recreations of the Minimoog and Juno 60/106, and while I do admit I don’t have much experience with the real thing/vintage models, I’d say they’re close enough for most people (and the GUI is great). There are a lot of presets for OPx4 and Fabric that I would never want to hear again, but those synths can also make some great sounds.
I will also state that I don’t think I would have bought most of those plugins had they not been on sale, but I do think Jura on standalone would be worth the full price— much cheaper than a Juno boutique…
I’m generally intrigued what the issue is with Jura, Mini D, OPx4, Tube Synth, Bassline, Hype, Odyssey, drum synth, that folk find them unsuitable to make tracks?
They all sound freaking great to me, whack them through some effects… even better.
I do wish they would update the Fabric and Hype plugin though to accept user samples and wavetables, it would make the plugins much more useable!
I’m on a similar path as you going daw and pairing with a keystep 37. Though only other hardware interested is maybe a field or a minifreak though I can get a vst for the fraction of price
The minifreak has the better sounds surely, from everything I hear its just a better synth. But there’s nothing like the Field, and I think I’m just hyping it too much in my head.
BTW love to hear you’r opinions on the Freak and Field respectively if possible. I was going to use either to pair with a DAW as midi controllers. Field has a variety of sequencers but not sure how rock solid the midi is as I remember the OG Op-1 had massive issues with drifting.
where are you coming from and how would they know whether a sh-101 belongs to you or not, it could have been hers, any music gear could be hers, how would anyone know?
damn dude, do you have a felony record or something? Not making light of anything or trying to joke, I have just never heard of crossing the border with one’s own property being such a headache. Does it have something to do with music equipment being used to make money? Was it an American border guard?
I would honestly take the time to talk to a lawyer or something about it, I think it would be worth sending an email to someone and potentially paying a couple hundred bucks for an hour of someone’s time to get to the bottom of this… I would fight tooth and nail if I was moving across the US-Canada border and someone told me I would need to get rid of my stereo, records, turntables, synths…
For whatever it’s worth, I’ve taken my MPC Live 2 across a bunch of borders in Europe and North America (sometimes along with other gear and always with a laptop) and no one ever gave me trouble in security or customs…
Also, could you not just give your fiancé all of your stuff? Unless you’re signing a prenuptial contract, it’ll all be considered shared property once you get married anyway… Not saying that’s a bad thing necessarily, just trying to suggest an alternative to getting rid of your possessions. Maybe a simple notarized document saying you transfer ownership to your fiancé would make everything okay.
situation is bananas, I’ve sold and bought vintage synths from across the border many times, not the canadian border but I’ll be dammed if anybody tried to take my sh*t… my cars been full of gear nobody ever questioned me about my instruments wtf?
and if they tried to take them they’d have more than my musical taste to deal with.
Definitely sell the gear to your fiance if that’s wtf it takes… I can’t imagine getting a red flag cause you own a sh-101?.. F that, talk to the lawyers again.
btw i know what it’s like to be at the door of being homeless, and homeless … keeping you in my prayers keep your head up
For sure, I’ve suffered through both the EB 16 and the onboard 1000 FX, and the current MPCs are certainly streets ahead of those. The SP FX remain more immediate and fun, and unlike the MPC are a cornerstone of the device. I could live without FX on the MPC if I had to (I’d moan about it), but remove the FX from the SP and you might as well remove the power supply while you’re at it.
