MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

Do it it’s a classic, probs have adjust the arrangement a little to account to the structure of the acapella but that’s half the fun of doing it, I always find it gives a real insight into how tracks are constructed…

Sadly I made that on my old MPC One that I no longer have. No editing available.

Break out the 404!

Hey everyone,

quick question regarding MPC + Splice integration.
One of the reasons I’m considering finally getting my very first MPC is the fact that it has Splice integration.

I own a TE KO2 and found myself not using it as much for various reasons. One of them being that getting samples on to the devices is a bit annoying and therefore a bit of a barrier to actually do something with it.

I’m hoping that the Splice integration on MPC “fixes” that as it gives me practically infinite samples to play with.

However, after doing some research I’m running into (sometimes 2-3 years old) reddit posts, complaining about the Splice integration actually not being that great.

Example: https://www.reddit.com/r/mpcusers/comments/wpi756/how_does_everyone_feel_about_splice_on_mpc_live_2/

So my question for the people having a lot of experience with MPC and ideally making use of its Splice integration:

Have these things been ironed out? Would you say Splice is usable by now? Any other issues I should be aware of that might be a show stopper on that regard?

Thanks in advance for everyone who provides their insights.

It’s integrated but the browsing, in my opinion, is convoluted because a single sample will be embedded in multiple layers of folders. Not ideal for me when it comes to moving quickly.

I did notice that Splice now gives you the option to directly download a sample to your own Download folder on your computer. Which is great. No more folder digging! But I can now more easily organize a folder for the MPC

So just Sp 404 now?

So… what exactly is happening there?

I thought one would, say, have some SD card, or SSD, tell splice on which volume (SD or SSD) to store the samples and then they’ll be downloaded to that volume.

Is that not what’s happening?

What’s the “embedded in multiple layers of folders” thing you’re referring to?

Do you use Splice on your computer? It’s the same folder structure on the MPC

Oh no. I bought a MPC Live 2. Also quite a few samplers after. Just don’t have the original chops since they were on the One.

Ha, I do, but I just run the Splice app in which I download the samples and from there I drag and drop into my DAW.

So I don’t actually know where on the file system the samples are stored.

So all in all, if the splice integration isn’t actually working that great or so cumbersome that one ends up not using it that much then that’s taking away a good argument that speaks for an MPC device.

I guess the alternative is then still to simply put the Splice samples on an SD card use them from there on the MPC?

No idea about integration but all you need is a cable or an SD card and it’s the same as moving files on a computer. Couldn’t be easier :man_shrugging:

I quit Splice as it was too expensive for what I needed BUT I didn’t have an issue with it, browse on the app, buy then sync the MPC.
You can find check all samples and arrange by latest, look for the folder with the right type of file, eg kicks, or browse to the Sample pack folder.
Sure, it requires browsing folders and either remember the category of the file you’re looking for or the pack it belonged to.

Yeah had one myself before selling it, I admit I be looking for one but holding out now for just a retro colored mpc live 2 now if I did or one in retro.

I hear you. I keep hoping for an updated Live with 4gb, or a Force 2.

I don’t think this is true at all - I completely ignored the Splice integration and never felt I was missing out on anything. I just used an SD card.

Splice works fine for me, it works as advertised. Any files I have sync’d to my MPC then I can use them. But Splice is a small part of the experience for me. I have more than enough samples already loaded up on the SSD, plus some extra on an SD card, plus it’s a nice sampler so I never feel like I don’t have enough material to choose from.

Anybody looking or might be looking in the future for a live 2 retro, your might want to hurry as they are discontinued now… there are some for sale used but who knows if all the owners figure out they can change what they want now and the price go crazy… who knows these days either way but just in case a heads up.
