I’ve heard it doesn’t even have a display. It’s only LEDs. 
First time posting in this thread. I just purchased an MPC Live after trying to find the right sampler for me and I absolutely love it. I’m not sure why but I never even considered the MPC series on my sampler search. In the past few years I’ve owned the Blackbox, Tracker, Octatrack, Digitakt, OP1F (I might be missing more) and while there were things I loved about them all there were too many shortcomings for my use case. I had been primarily interested in having something portable that I could use wherever I wanted as I’m primarily an Ableton and Norns user but hooked up thr MPC with my other gear and it actually fits very nicely in with everything else, even with having the Push 2, I just love the pads on the MPC.
Anyways, I found some posts a while back on creating keygroups using Instrumap and Preset Maker. Is there a consensus on which is better. I want to make keygroups from my Samples from Mars libraries and also want to explore creating some from Pianobook sample libraries.
Also another keygroup question w/ regards to drum samples. Can I just toss a list of one shots into Preset Maker and create a keygroup from those samples? Reason being I want to play with the Arpeggiator on the MPC. Thanks!

I’m finally considering buying a used MPC One in the coming weeks.
Anything I need to know about license transferring?
What I mean is, the optional paid plugins are tied to the hardware or to the original owner?

Extra paid plugins are tied to the account that bought them. The bundled plugins are tied to the hardware.

Anyone using controller mode / switching back and forth between controller and standalone?
I write tracks standalone, and usually have no computer in the mix at all, but I’m looking at changing that up so I can integrate my setup with TDAbleton and TouchDesigner for making visuals. Trying to decide whether I should stay standalone and just stream audio in from different channels of my mixer vs working in controller mode as a VST in Ableton at least part of the time.
Everyone’s style and takes where so different! made for a great battle.

Any tips for phone sampling? The sp404 mk2 and op1 spoiled me with usb audio
I’m not the biggest fan anymore of how bulky stereo 1/4 to 1/8 adapters typically are. If this is the only way - is there some sort of slim cable out there or a cleaner alternative method?
The other piece for me is that samples sound thin when using the apple lightning to 1/8 adapter. Anyone using some sort of amp or mobile interface to do this? I know this contradicts what i just said about disliking carrying something bulky but for better sound quality I’d consider it
Almost wondering if a lightning - sd card adapter would be the best thing for me. I’d put samples on an sd from my phone and then pop the sd into the mpc. Much more compact than dual 1/4 to 1/8 and no wires attached. No audio quality loss. However a bit more disjointed
I didn’t watch the video but this is something I’ve noticed lately. I always thought “platform” was a piece of kit that someone could build something on top of like teensy or rasp pi. If the MPC FW or OS was open source, and peeps could build features on top of it, that would make more sense. It seems “platform” has become silly marketing speech at this point.
Totally. I’m just saying that, in this example, it used to be called MPC “series” or “family.” None of it is a "platform’ in the sense that you can “develop” for it.

I think sampling inside the phone and transferring those files to the MPC is the cleaner workflow; especially since you seem averse to peripherals.

Not ‘you’ but at least one of the current plugins is developed by a third party so maybe that’s where the ‘platform’ is.
So what’s the MPC’s song mode like compared to Force’s arrange mode? Is the distinguishing feature of the Force’s arrange mode that you can drop the patterns into the arrangement live, while the playhead is running?
