MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

We know. The dude was just sarcastic… I think

they told me no for probability ala elektron though, but since then they dropped that generator, I think they might drum up some kinda direct probability feature at some time… manipulating layers gets tedious sometimes

Is it reasonable to expect a refresh on the MPC Live series in the next 6-12 months? Seems like the only thing that hasn’t materialized from the “rumors” and if they come out with a smaller Live with speaker I will regret buying new MPC One….

that’s a good question, more than anything I want mini models of all of the beat machines we celebrate here on the forum with the exception of the octatrak but there is just no way to know, unless you’re in the know… which I’m not so I spend my time hoping while drinking the tea leaves instead of trying to read them…
you gotta wonder why the big 3-5 let devs like sonic ware and polyend, and dirty wave just run this space… there is obviously money to be made what the heck are they waiting for

Thinking exactly the same thing. Seems strange to release an SE and a + model and ignore the Live (in the year of their 35th anniversary)

My amateurish wishful thinking is there will be a new Live released this year. Whether it is mini is another thing…

When a MPC Mini is on the horizon I’ll probably take it … a screen, some knobs and buttons and please 4gigs of RAM and lot’s of USB-ports - just like a modular environment - and if one needs pads - buy it

my clunky Live will then has to go

I hope the next units will have different RAM size options that’s user customizable.

They release that MPC Mini yet?

Yes! We tried to get in touch but nobody knew where you were. I’m afraid it was too small and they had to do a recall. It had MPE and everything, ran off a little SR416 battery, but it just wasn’t practical with the 5mm pads. I expect the next model will be comically oversized, considering some of the horrible comments people were making online.

Story of my life!

now that i discovered the looper on that thing (LIVE) i must say it’s quite good with some minor issues for me:

when i record let’s say an eight-bar basedrum loop … the last few milliseconds produce some sort of artifact, like a tiny transient, when the loop is on it’s starting-point again … this is because of the basedrum-decay from the last hit in the loop

although the loop-recorder is synced (I’m confident it’s not perfect!!) i have to silence the very end manually with the fade-out command to remove the annoying ‘pop’ . I’m wondering if this could be automated, or is there a hidden button that i have to hit

There’s a minor helper. If you use the loops you recorded in a clip program, then you can add a small fade by default.
But that’s pretty much it.
Also usually haveing warp off helps, unless off coruse you need to warp your samples…

thank you for that advise … maybe this could be a request for an update

I’m wondering why AKAI didn’t spend enough attention to the looper … this thing could be amazing when programmed right

I’ll often do a much longer loop - 16-32 bars etc, then bring ‘er in to the sample edit and chop out the 4-8 bar section I want.

I like to do 64 bars of improvisation a sketch to get a sense of the track but then I don’t want to cut it up afterwards because it all sound like a good story.

I say it’s a draw. Anyone with golden ears hear any real difference?

No I don’t have one, but if you send me $30 I can tell you where to get it for free.

Gold is .5% better in the highs. Lows and mids sound clearer. I believe those Burris convertors were used instead due to the AKM plant fires. Is this improvement going to make your output better ? Nope you can do corrective EQ on the earlier model and get something similar, but again you are pulling teeth for .5% improvement.

I know the piano / Rhodes examples are where the gold can shine. The 808 you really need to try to catch the difference which means your listener can’t even tell at that point.

In a couple of hours I will watch this video again and use my mastering grade headphone amp and Audeze mm-500 to see if I can catch anything else.

Wow… Can you spot a .5% difference thru YouTube compression?
Great ears!!!
