Isn’t the Ninety model in the drum synth pretty sick? I’ve a hunch it’s referring to the 909 hat but that’s a sample right?
Isn’t this synth some kind of physical modelling? That can still sound pretty close to the 909 hat sample that is
Yes to all your questions.
Listening setup
Clarett 8 pre outputs into Little Labs Monitor headphone amp and headphones used are Audeze MM-500.
Test 1. DX7.
This the only test where the gold stood out the most when you were moving up the keyboard. The Burr Brown convertors from the Gold X are more open on the mid highs and highs without sounding too glossy. The AKM AK4621 for the black X sounds good too. I don’t know the Burr Brown chips in the gold model so I didn’t list it. If I was recording a keyboardist to sample into the MPC X then the gold is the winner.
Test 2. TR-808.
The black model does a better job with capturing the kicks and snares of the machine. I’m saying that as a Yocto 808 owner. The black MPC X is a modern machine that was able to cat h the low end and mid low frequencies of the TR-808. The gold sounds a little more open. As a “Drum Sampler” both units are good in that scenario.
Test 3. Moog Model D.
For lower notes both machines sound good. Once you go in the higher octaves the gold stands out more.
I think I was too pessimistic with the performance bump. You probably will notice a 2% bump in performance from the black to gold model.
Now I am curious how good the white SE model will sound like.
Damn bro, I thought that you were joking about doing a test. Still whatever different there is ain’t much no matter how you slice it. He did more comparisons on his channel.
Selling water to Dolphins
How much for the water, boss?
Thanks for the comparison! Interesting observations. I’m away from my gear for a week, so haven’t bothered listening to the YouTube video on my iphone yet — I’m usually weary of comparisons posted on YouTube because the compression clouds the image quite a bit in my experience, but it’s interesting enough that you can perceive differences regardless. I’ve heard good things about the BLA mod, seems like the SE also benefits from that mod? Probably not worth the money, but good to know there are options out there.
2500 to you my dolphin……
I was just trolling the BLA site and noticed they are offering the WAV files for before and after the mods.
I’ll setup Anubis interface to my listening setup for these files to let you know what 845 dollars gets you.
Anubis to Monitor headphone amp into MM500 cans. That’s almost 5k for the listening setup.
If you were in the market for an MPC X SE and were to drop 845 for the mods you might be better off buying a Burl B2 ADC and DAC at used prices. That’s what those convertors do very well and you can loop into your DAW output whatever you did on the MPC program.
Give me a couple of days for the review. I have some deadlines at work.
Ok, but in the meantime, I’m selling this big bag of 100% pure Space air for $1k.
I’ll cash app you later today
How big is it?
Correct me* please BUT surely cant you just hook up your usb compatable* interface of choice or jus run direk into a warm, crunchy, dirty, punchy, creamy pre amp……?
I mean it’s never gonna sound like (they say) a 3000 OG anyhow……
Is this big enough for ya?
You better move fast, I already got an Cashapp offer.
Oh yeah, NO LOW BALLING!
I would like to buy a small sample of the space air. I don’t need a lot but would like some. Can you sell smaller bags? Does it smell ok?
If Akai ever sends you that felt bag that was suppose to come with your MPC, I’ll put it in that for $30
As far as the smell like I said it’s 100% pure Space air, so it’s really doesn’t have an odor, but if it’s get old it’ll start to smell like burnt steak.
Yes I don’t buy old space air, you got to get it when it is fresh. My new akai cover will sit nicely next to my space air on my mantle I have. I love nice things.
You’re a smart consumer.
Yes, you can, if you’re not “satisfied” with the “converters” you can spend $100,000 on gold plated ones provided they have a USB plug and are class compliant… which makes the whole debate about sound silly. Or you can buy a S3000, exact same converters as the MPC3000, $300… Strangely nobody is willing to pay $2000 for a S3000…
