Yeah I don’t think it was anything other than the actual voltage converter part getting extremely hot and shutting down, I just tried the brand new cord I got and ran it for an hour or so on a couple of pretty basic projects and it still got pretty toasty but no drop outs… I’m all about helping out with honest opinions, no b.s. just my experience… report back if you have any grief with it
I tried it and it’s pretty decent, makes nice use of the touch screen. Youll need the network midi driver installed, I wish my brain was up to the job of managing a live set and an MPC project at once but sadly I’m not a multi tasking kind of guy and i ended up down the sonic rabbit hole…
Yeah…I hear you. I really like the MPC One stand alone, with the iPad or using the MPC Desktop software…keep the workflow optimized for the hardware.
I have a Push 2 for the Live workflow…
Just thought that it was cool that they added it with 2.10
For tight fitting SSD’s. Just open your SSD up and take out the tiny little board that is the actual SSD out of it. Throw the case away and fit your actually tiny SSD into the MPC.
SSD’s are only that size because of the historical compatability with 2.5 inch drive bays.
I think Hype has a ton of hidden potential, and the way it’s presented doesn’t do it many favours. One of the macro knobs is limited to mixing, which means it sits there doing nothing on many of the configurations, and I think the UI in general works to hide much of what it can do. I guess it’s there to be instantly impressive and broad, which it does achieve, but I wish the under-the-hood stuff was easier to explore and bring out. The envelope/LFO macro features on the Force can help a lot with this, especially as some of Hype’s built-in modulation is locked to external MIDI control (why?), so it’d be great if some form of that made it over to the MPC. But what it needs more than anything is some proper documentation to make it less of a puzzle and more of a synth.
I hope Akai will release the full synth as VST so you can make your own presets and macros and save them to be opened in standalone, a compromise, but better than it is now.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the Hype, it is my favourite synth of the MPC mostly because the UI is better connected to the q-links than the other synths, but I would like a bit more control, especially in the LFO destination.
Just one extra screen (given they’ve already committed to the tabbed interface route) with access to more of the synth internals would probably make the mono and poly synths redundant, though I suspect once of their main values is as lighter-weight alternatives in projects that use several internal plugins. It’s weird that Akai obviously feel Hype is a flagship plugin, but are happy to leave it much of it a mystery. Why take the time to name your dozens and dozens of samples and wavetables and then not bother listing them anywhere for reference? Ah, well. I suppose the newer plugins have taken a fair amount of the limelight, too - Hype was a big step up from the original options on the Force, but the Odyssey and others have levelled the playing field there (although all the more reason to make Hype a bit more user-friendly).
The Odyssey is really interesting as it is the first non-Akai synth. Could this open up to third party plugins?
It would be good if Akai opened it up to third party developers, but, this is obviously personal/subjective, I only ever use the plugin synths for tracking convenience and as a place holder… if I get something I want to keep I’ll usually flip that track to an external synth.
I just don’t think of Akai/MPC as a synth source… it’s sequencing and sampling to me.
I don’t know how plugins are handled on the MPC - given the amount of RAM the OS takes up, I’ve always assumed the engines are loaded in when it boots up, making them instantly available - which would limit how many you could add (the ‘Synth’ folder preset content is obviously loaded from card / disk). If engines could be added in a modular fashion then you’d have the capacity for some kind of marketplace, which I guess is the next step for the standalone DAW - VST support, or a manageable equivalent. Maschine+ might be the one to watch there, but it’d be a risky move, I think…, I suspect Akai have enough work cut out making sure their official plugins play nicely. In a device like the MPC, wonky third-party plugins could do a lot of PR damage.
I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m assuming one benefit that the new usb update provides for those with an MPC Live 2 is that now that you’re hooked up to a usb mixer via that one cable, makes the live 2 even more portable because you don’t have to plug and unplug your Ins/outs anymore and can just unplug that usb cable, pick up and go?
Pretty much so.
I wish I had a nice usb powered synth that works as usb audio with the Live, then I would be golden.
Analog Four?
Typhon is USB powered and has audio and MIDI over USB doesn’t it?
It does, but it doesn’t work as audio over usb with the Live. I still haven’t seen confirmation of any synth supporting audio over usb on the Force. I know the Digitone and Digitakt don’t, nor the Virus.
I think the key thing here as far as class compliancy goes it that your weapon of choice is Linux class compliant, after all that’s what we’re plugging these interfaces into… your MPC is basically a modified Linux box… that was my main reason for getting the Allen and heath, I saw post on Reddit saying that they had it working perfectly under linux and another over on the MPC forums stating that it worked fine…
I reckon trying to find a synth with an interface that works with the MPC is a fruitless mission myself… I’m always up for being corrected though…
I’m not expecting to find many, if any, but it was worth asking. I’ve tried asking on the Facebook MPC Live/One group but instead of replying to a simple question people are schooling me on synthesizers, might cancel my question over there soon, why did I bother…
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of hostility and passive aggressive behaviour asking simple question can create, this thread is by far the most cooperative and friendly MPC discussion I’ve come across to date… I feel very welcome here to be honest…
Who knows, the unicorn you’re searching for could be in the works as we speak, I’ve got feeling that if there was a solution already then someone would have tried it and posted it…
