Reminds me of behringer deepmind initial teaser. Except there hadnt been photo/spec leaks all over the Internet already for that Akai should just drop the info/price/dates…
They could well be evaluating the contours of a freshly sculpted tudd for all we know…
The Roli Blocks looks more like a “Glimpse into the future” even though it seems its functions are more play-a-loop and presets based.
IMO the roli blocks are wayy to tiny for proper realtime use. Otherwise I do like the controller concept
I’d maybe use them somewhere if I had them but seems kind of gimmicky/rich boys toys? Like you could buy an ipad mini 2 for same price as a couple of blocks. Which (unless I’ve missed something) is way more flexible as a controller/sequencer etc?
Roli has opened up the blocks for gp controller use, works with MIDI and OSC, nad there are already resources for programming it with Max7. But the size…
What is this? A Roli Blocks for ants?
$1200 for live pre-order at sweetwater. Photo of rear connections. Has 2 x midi in/out, dunno if that helps for those concerned that it only had one pair. A little more expensive than rumoured but seems like pretty fair price. Tempted to pre-order when UK stores show up, heard previous mpc/akai software is buggy tho… Hopefully v2.0 is solid and the reason it was delayed…
I’m liking what I’m seeing. A lot. Need to start researching the latest MPC software to know what to expect. Prolly selling my 1k too. 2x2 MIDI I/O was a nice touch I didn’t expect, and should be adequate for many users.
Looking like a buy for me
EDIT: A rumor stating feb 6th as the release date for the live has been spotted. We shall see…
Looks like the MPCX is also on sweetwater:
2199$ is not showstopping but it looks too big for me
Yeah looks great if you wanna have mpc as centre of your studio and sequencing extrernals but I’m pretty set with where I’m at re Daw etc. LIVE’s portability and daw integration looks killer tho
That “Hybrid Standalone DAW” term used in the marketing text is interesting… Is Akai really trying to make these DAWs?
Guess from one angle they qualify as a daw… Audio tracks have been added to the new OS apparently. And runs 3rd party vst when connected to pc. Not really interested in it replacing Sonar/Ableton but can’t hurt for it to have that kind of depth/integration as a portable scratch pad
The addition of Audio tracks seriously worries my OT…
My definition of a DAW is “if it can record, edit, mix and export MIDI and audio files, it’s a DAW” so external plugin support is not mandatory. Recording audio tracks, editing, comping them into a new take, mixing… If the new MPCs can do all this, it will be a game changer for me.
Yeah this box is potentially a killer portable Swiss army knife. Heard talk of a ‘launch clips’ ableton kind of mode too. Plus you can make your own multisampled instruments etc (Mellotron/synths/weird pedals stuff etc etc). Seems like it’ll tick a lot of boxes for playing shows without a computer. Really hoping the USB sockets will allow me to use Op1 sequencers too. Pretty sure I’m down for pre-order…
Yep, I’d guess it covers those bases pretty deeply. Same as ipad daws. But with extras/connectivity/ui etc. Looks like an amazing box if they’ve nailed the software. Fingers crossed…
I will wait to see what’s the road take after the first batch…
But MPCX > Studio
and MPC Live > Stage
If this is really serious piece of Gear i can get one or Both. Depend if Live is Powerful enough and usable without headache (i mean touch control and workflow) otherwise i go MPCX or TORAIZ. (Or Elektron if they launch a serious Super Hero in this domain)
Here’s OS info in Italian. Google translated it pretty well. Sounds well rounded. One thing that might hold me back is polyphony and track count. Apparently you can only have 8 audio tracks on standalone. Not sure if that means you can only have 8 sample tracks also? And what’s the polyphony per sample track. And if/how that polyphony is reduced if you timestrech a sample to play chromatically… Hopefully this kind of info will appear pretty soon…
