Random fun fact about this movie…

Last summer, my wife and I visited a Lavender farm here in southeast UK (county of Kent) for a day out and the farmer gave a group guided tour. He then casually mentioned that they occasionally shoot movies and TV on the farm and that they’d recently filmed part of a Jason Statham movie there about a beekeeper, and that they’d built replica barns and other buildings, burned them down, had gunfight scenes there etc.

I’ve been waiting for the movie to drop ever since, as I’m an unapologetic Statham fan. Haven’t actually watched it yet though!

Not as fast paced as some Hitchcock movies. But you will find the same excellent camera work and beautifully lit scenes.

right on same here been fan of Jason Statham since his old Guy Ritchie film days. Beekeeper is such a great action film with real good plot. Scammers are big problem these days and funny thing is that the villains remind me a lot of the Bidens lol.

Recommended for fans of Hong Kong kung fu movies of yesteryear.

Started this Thursday here in Germany!

As a Jason Statham fan, I never expect anything other than good action. I got it as usual. But man that Agent Verona was such a bad actress.

Early Statham is the best. Transporter, Snatch, and Lock Stock are irrefutable classics.

Love that film, Sandler should have won an Oscar for it, IMO Something I never thought I’d say. Although he was great in PDL, too. Definitely a stressful movie, much like the Safdie brothers previous Good Time with Robert Pattinson. Also a great film and Oscar worthy performance. I hope the brothers’ recent announcement that their creative partnership is over is short lived.

It’s a tough watch but the performances are extraordinary. It was banned for nearly 20 years in the UK under the moral panic of the “Video Nasty” epidemic of the early 80’s and heavily censored in the US. It feels very “A24” before it’s time, if you’ll get my drift. A very unusual and unnerving film.
On Amazon Prime at the mo.

Where was it banned? Wasnt it that the US cut it down very hard but you could still get the Euro(German?) cut if you knew where to look? Maybe I remember wrong. I think the old shortened US version was still very good by the way but a bit confusing. Awesome movie!

It was banned in UK until 99 when the BBFC reclassified it and it was released in it’s full uncensored cut. I found it very hard to watch at points. :grimacing:

Ah ok! Read up some about the different versions and what a mess. I dont think I saw the hardest US cut first but the longer one that is heavily cut but not rearranged.

I remember this by Zulawski as very good and heavy also but it was a long time since I saw it:

Watched this a few months back as had heard a lot of good things about it. Movie ended and the other half and I looked at each other and just went “what the fuck?” :joy: in a good way I should add. Was one of those movies that I went off and read about what it all meant as I was clearly missing much of the point while actually watching it and in hindsight I was like “ah”.

A tough one to wholeheartedly recommend but definitely worth watching.

I personally feel Possession is far superior to any of the A24 stuff I have seen (though I have only perhaps seen 4 or 5).

A few friends really encouraged me to watch Robert Eggers’ stuff, I saw The Witch and The Lighthouse and couldn’t really see what the deal was… at least the Lighthouse had some kind of relief in it, whereas I just found The Witch quite bleak - only really found the end part interesting. I came away thinking they could really have been short films.

I felt the same about Ex Machina - interesting premise, not much more though, again I thought a short film would have suited it better.

I also didn’t like Uncut Gems much. It did make me feel a bit nauseous though.

I should point out that my friends thought I was insane for having these views though, and most of them totally disagree with me!

Posession I found much more substance in, and yes it is very uncomfortable at times but it really drives at some kind of truth, I think anyway.

Possession is super overrated!

Same, Lighthouse and Uncut Gems were lousy. There is a crop of trendy directors who badly want to make the kinds of edgy, intellectual films of the past that are now part of the cinephile canon (rightly or wrongly), but the work of Eggers. Lanthimos, Safdies, Villeneuve etc seem desperate, imitative, and vapid by comparison. They know the canon but totally misunderstand why those films are lauded. It’s too bad that the film landscape is so desertified now that these guys look (to many) like auteurs.

100% Lock Stock

Plus some of my other favorite actors like Vinnie Jones in it. Dang I need to watch it again.

I still struggle to take Vinne Jones serious as an actor
