Favourite bit. Sorry. It had to be done.
I’m about a third of the way through killers of the flower moon, it’s good but it’s making me uncomfortable and finding it a hard watch, not due to the filmmaking but probably the aggressive villainy in the story. I’m sure there will be some kind of redemption in the third act but with a 3.5 hour film just getting to that point is proving a challenge. Makes me want to watch a happy madison movie.
My other half spent much of that movie asking if stuff like that really happened. Same when we watched The Pianist some years back. Dont take this as me slagging her off but it really is amazing how ignorant many are of the horrors people (often whole nations of people) have had to endure.
Incredible that we still need movies to help with that message!
I don’t think it gets all that much better in thirds 2 & 3 by the way… really good movie.
It’s looking pretty bleak, I’m taking breaks for mental health. I was reading that Hale is an actual historical figure and really was a freemason. I was trying to figure out if there was some message behind his being a mason, but I think it’s just in the interest of a historically correct portrayal and some display of ego to his own self-importance rather than some evil empire conspiracy plot.
The film (like much real history) is an incredibly painful reminder of how far we have to go as humans. There’s really no sugarcoating the facts here, in fact this is probably the lightest version of it you’re going to find since the reality is not so far removed from the on-screen drama.
This is an older vaguely sci-fi adventure, vaguely rom-com movie that’s entertaining and quirky which someone would probably enjoy. Really good cast too.
And I thought I was alone in thinking this way!
Possession feels very real, very raw to me. All tension and expectation with barely any relief. I feel like most modern horrors and sci-fi lack this quality.
Civil war
Enjoyed it a lot I’m sure it’ll be discussed with the background of trump and the election … good pace , good action bits , good performances.
Worked well in imax - huge booming sfx really helped.
the beekeeper is awful. what a garbage fire.
The reduex of Road House was horrible and delightful at the same time. Absolute wonderful trash.
Excellent movie. But it’s sad at the same time. Definitely worth watching! We all feel this way sometimes…
It’s Kind of a Funny Story
Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer… I"m glad I waited to watch this on BluRay. Grainy video, vintage synth soundtrack, and outstanding acting by MIchael Rooker and cast. Not exactly factual but if you like grimy lo-fi horror films, this one is near perfect.
Myself and the Duchess laughed a lot. Some very amusing lines in it. Timothy Spall, Olivia Coleman and Jesse Buckley… What’s not to like?
I started watching Angel Heart in bed last night. Had to paus midway to sleep but I really like the vibe. Hoping for a weird twist. Beautiful 50s scenery, interiors and wardrobe. I want Rourkes suit and tie.
Good one! Underrated. And I love its twist, although you can see it coming from miles away
It’s a classic. Haven’t watched it in ages, but I really should re-watch it sometime.
One of my absolute old favourites (Johnny😉)
Had the poster of the Rourkester on my bedroom wall. Beautiful soundtrack as well.
Wow!
I watched Late Night with the Devil yesterday. It’s a great premise (found footage of the final episode of a cheesy 70s talk show on Halloween night where the desperate host tried to commune with the spirits), but they break the found footage format too much. Plus the ending goes off the rails, and not in a particularly good way. There are some good moments in there, but it doesn’t live up to the hype
