I’m waiting for people to start llm reverse engineering firmwares for synths like Matriarch, where there are stupid bugs, that the producer won’t just fix lol.
I thought I was dreaming when I saw two brand new Dark Matriarchs on Reverb last night listed for normal retail price. I’ve been keeping an eye out for used ones to pair with my Dark Grandmother, some day when I have the space. I’m gearing up for a move a couple months down the road, but wouldn’t have an easy way to store it until then or else I probably would have scooped one without hesitation. Had no clue they started making them again.
So these new ones are going to be assembled in Asheville? Wonder if they’re gonna cover up the “Moog is an employee-owned company” decal on the back panel…
no, I think they were found when they were effectively de-commissioning the Asheville site, going through the warehouse etc…
you raise a good point about the badging ? Where they are actually going to be assembled I don’t know ?!!
Yeah there’s definitely no production at the Asheville site anymore.
Finding the parts in the Asheville warehouse shouldn’t effect the badging at all. They’ll ship them to China and build the synths there. The parts are most likely related to the oscillators, filters, mixer, or delay not the outer shell of the synth.
Also, iirc the Asheville factory was basically just an assembly line anyway
Looks like retailers are starting to wind down Matriarch listings. Considering the Matriarch was literally the icon for the “Synths” page on like half of online music stores in the world, that seems like pretty solid confirmation.
Anybody have experience with cases or bags for this synth? Mine is used and definitely from the Asheville production run, which was not known for the best quality control. I’ve avoided any issues after three years with it besides a few scratchy pots, but now that it’s discontinued I’d like to keep it in good shape.
Is that official from Moog ?
SynthAnatomy is notoriously unreliable, and prone to error.
There are other possibilities discussed in the HW Deals thread, including various manufacturing changes at Moog or a new HW version.
Aside on SynthAnatomy
They quoted me off of E’nauts at one time and then got all hostile toward me here when i told them they were not doing proper reporting. They immediately dropped me from their article, and quote another E’naut instead. Thankfully a mod stepped forward and blasted them right back when they went after me. There are many instances of them getting it wrong in their reporting.
Here’s the info I gathered on this topic. I emailed a local retailer and Moog/Inmusic directly. They are giving contrasting information. I think Moog is just refraining from making it official until they are ready to announce the new lineup of products as there is a rumoured 3 new synths we haven’t seen yet. Presumably they have replacements for the Grandmother and Matriarch and perhaps something new. Or maybe they are going to go in a totally different direction.
Comment from local retailer (they are a BIG chain though) is similar to what many other retailers are saying:
" I received confirmation from our Moog/InMusic rep that the Matriarch is discontinued. We have 13 new left across the chain, and it doesn’t sound like we are getting any more."
Comment from Moog:
"Thank you for reaching out to us with your enquiry regarding the Moog Matriarch’s availability.
Retailer inventory and ordering availability can vary by region, which means some local stores may not have new units, or may communicate that the product is unavailable due to their own supply limitations. However, this does not indicate a nationwide discontinuation unless officially announced by Moog or inMusic.
If the Matriarch is officially discontinued in the future, Moog will announce this through their official channels."
It’s being unlisted at major retailers. Your own link to Sweetwater in the sales thread from yesterday is already closed.
Good tip on Synth Anatomy, though. I don’t read them much, but this one caught my attention and the speculation didn’t seem unreasonable for a seven year-old synth.
Where are you located? I remember Thomann had some interesting options when I looked but I’m in the US.
I ended up just going with the Moog SR case. It’s pretty solid, I use it for occasional transport and I’m happy with it. I’d want a flight style case if I was gigging regularly but space at my house is limited and I couldn’t find an obvious choice at a reasonable price
Good work pseudor4ndom !
You have way exceeded the “reporting” from the aforementioned article.
Good to know!
Thomann does have a hardshell case that looks great, but I’m US-based, so the added expense and headache of international shipping is discouraging. I regularly take my Matriarch to workshops and practices, but I mostly need a case for getting it too and from the car.
Yeah good luck! Based on this Reverb listing, the Mono M80-PRO-V2-BLK is also an option to look into
ETA: If the Mono can fit the Matriarch with a decksaver, that could be really nice. I don’t think the Moog bag can.
I kept my Matriarch in the SR case, with a Decksaver on, for some time. The zips closed without much issue, but it was very snug. I suspect I stretched the case a little, and have stored it w/out the Decksaver since I noticed. But… maybe “snug” is the right fit for a synth in a good case?
Oh cool, good to know! Were you able to leave the patch cables plugged in? That’s the dream
I’ve thought about getting some right angled patch cables to do this but it’s not that big of deal and I don’t want to accidentally mess up the jacks
I can only give you half an answer.
Patches across the top panel using typical sized 3.5mm jacks fit under the decksaver. Patches which use the sockets on the rear panel might also fit: IIRC the decksaver extends beyond the rear panel to accomodate patch cables extending over the back of the synth. But… I don’t have strong memories of actually doing this so I can’t tell how comfortable that is. I can say that you wont get the synth in the case if there are normal vertical patch plugs in the back panel.
Thanks! Yes, that makes sense - the back is quite snug
