You got a souncloud or bandcamp?

Wish I owned one still. Naw, I don’t have any music up. Just a hobby really. I will be putting up old recordings on soindbandcamp once I get them leveled.

Do it mate!!! So you reckon the Digitone although completely different is the closest modern hardware comparison?

To me is the syntakt the closest ā€œnewā€ version of mm

Depends what you like on the MnM. It’s obviously a weird one, and it can’t be replicated particularly with just one device.

A lot of the dissonance and craziness is possible because the MnM can easily sound like absolute trash. It can be the most stubborn boring, irritating box sometimes.

The FX on the Octatrack are very similar to the MM and MD. So using any FM synth through the OT with a few audio routing track filters working against each other and clashing comb filters can get you close to this territory.

If you’re on a budget and know the Elektron flow, a Mk1 OT and preenFM is probably a good selection too.

I just bought a rytm mkii (my 4th :joy:) im gonna explore its internal sounds, dual vco and synthesis options as i mostly loaded samples on the others!
But i have enuff funds just to get an octa so might go down that route…thanks for the insights dude :pray::black_heart:

I ended up paying a little over $900 for a mk1 and got all the encoders replaced for $110. So I had a great MnM mk1 for $1010 and it still didn’t feel worth that much.

Absolutely! There’s some fella (max, Marc, something) on YT that dude some great explorations with the Machinedrum and the OT. He seemed to understand the similarities in structure between the silver twins and the OT.

Try to see what ya like about the MnM and find the sound elsewhere.

Also, the syntakt can be fun.

Oh cool will check that info out man and search for that max dude…i think what you said about octa is ringing true to me…i had one before…the fact it has 2xfx per track (inc delay ) plus more with a neighbour track ! So if the the algorythms are similar then all of a sudden thats kind of comparable to monomachine workflow and possibly at least the fx will sound similar.
You reminded me of the Combfilter which i loved!
I think the rytm into the OT on a thru machine track could realy be epic especislly the dual vco with the FM and Ringmod wave options…
Cheers loads man :blush::pray::metal:

how about

from a year ago, and I find new sounds and possibilities to this day. However, I’m eager about whatever new machines will come to Syntakt

@introvert does some pretty wild MnM stuff (and Elektron stuff in general):

Then we also have to talk about @olm with this gem :

@krypt made a brief appearance here, but left a vivid memory, in my mind at least.

Hope you’re well, wherever you are.

when i moved into my own place in 2018 (!) i recorded the below (messy and raw, not sure if that expreimental jsut remember getting lost in that rhythmic lopp, heated a bit just now for this nice thread).
i’ve criminally underused and under-learnt the mnm since then. i’m moving soon so seemed timely to share this snippet, maybe will keep everything boxed up except this mighty box for a while…

If you need somebody to take care of the mono machine, and let it yell, I can babysit it.

You so need to upload these to a soundcloud account!
I just downloaded various sample packs of the mnm including single cycle waveforms of the machines so gonna throw them into the octa and see what it will sounds like! Closest i can get to a mnm at moment
