I haven’t seen the vid yet, but no one rolls real (working) stuff on stage anymore……even in a covered environment.
The insurance policy alone to move it is prolly redicukous let alone the possibility of what the elements would have to offer……and apparently you stated it’s rain.
His set had a tight pyro and light routine synced to every beat. So was prepared to some extent. He had a few other synths, v cymbals and digital touchscreen interface setup. No cover or umbrellas in sight. Everything dripping.

crashes are the easiest to fake.
people know they come ont he end of phrases…does it doesnt matter…they mentally put in a crash, or some other hit
having done a ton of work w/ broadcast…its all tape. the vocals are occasionally real.

i saw aphex a few times in the mid 90s
he just walked out with a laptop, pressed the space bar, and laid down on a couch and played playstation for 90min. picked up his laptop after and walked away. people went nuts. he basically gave the finger to the audience the entire time…and they didnt care.
lesson here is, 90% of the time you think what is happening on stage isnt whats happening. people dont risk their 100k$ synths or 100m$ tours to some sort of “chance”
backing tracks are the norm and there is a failover if shit goes south.
the last one that was left to chance and tried to be real was that Grimes set at Coachella…and we all know how we view that one…

My department’s meetings are finally going back to in-person post-pandemic, and I already desperately miss the ability to put my mic on mute and play soft synth presets in order to soften the impact of the most grating and predictable personalities…
I’m certain the expression on my face was always thoughtful and profound, while I was deciding to add some juno pad or other to my collection of favorites…
