Miserable git's general and non-specific (but very inclusive) whingeing thread - If you've got thoughts about stuff, I'm your guy

that william orbit mix of the future is excellent… i’ll find a link later.

Make sure you watch Travolta dance to the future mix when you pull it up because they’re about the same BPM.

This is an ego trip, not a complaint:

I’d like to take credit for fixing Toneverk. I bought an SP-404mk2 on sale last week, and it looks like the latest TV firmware fixes everything.

Will probably wait a few days before putting the new firmware on, the 404 is pretty sweet.

Flagging and hidden messages on this forum for trivial reasons has gotten out of control. :disappointed:

You can’t even read the damn messages to decide for yourself whether the flagging was warranted.

Certain threads need it, badly. Some threads don’t and get it anyway.

Maybe just the cost of living in paradise.

Would at least like to be able to read them though.

Fucking hell, I remember way, way back when I was at uni studying and the media reported that a high progesterone level certainly indicated that you were bound to get some kind of cancer. Of course, it was some bean counter statistician that made the “finding”. The pathology labs made a fortune doing progesterone tests all friggn right.

I propose we start calling AI “Dave”.

One of those was me… The rule is no copy-pasting LLM shit here

I wasn’t aware of that rule ( edit - looks like I’d muted it )
I’ll ask it to write it in a more human way next time.
I assume auto correct spell checking is still ok although that seems weird on x / bluesky and here sometimes, my setup should be proper uk English , no funny ‘other’ foreign versions of English . ( joking … )

At least people don’t write ‘axe’ when they mean ‘ask’ .

Or you could just not inflict that horsefuckery on us at all? Fuck I hate LLMs.

Ironically, the best way to protect ourselves from LLMs is to fill the place with LLM-generated slop, poisoning the well.

I plan to avoid LLMs by walking into the woods and never returning. Gonna crawl into a hole in a tree and live in there like a gnome.

Unironically, the value of my disconnected or limited-connection devices has gone way up in my mind.

Just one example is the Kindle’s minimal web browser which was never intended to be good enough to be a distraction from books.

That might be the same deal for me, only because I’m struggling to get a lot done sat behind a computer spending time talking online or playing games

Protests against them have been pretty sporadic. I say we maliciously comply to their vision of having less or zero reliance on human creators, and see them fall apart - if even the music industry giants wants to rely more (or exclusively) on unauthorized trained data, human creators have to make nothing new any more, sort of like a hunger strike. Problem with that is how to get a large face of the Earth to agree to something like it. Also, other entertainment industry protests have also been sporadic.

Going by their logic of piracy that they sought to prevent (but are now getting away with in a hugely hypocritical way), and as long as LLMs still have their massive limitations on a sound quality basis, it’ll be like the days when unauthorized copies of music before MP3 redistributions (i.e. when the only feasible method was analog recordings) significantly degraded sound quality of the source material.

Other than that music and media distribution will most likely have to go completely underground, through the very private mediums they want to compromise. As far as the big guys are concerned, we place a criminal burden on their aspirations, and they’re proposing LLMs as a solution to maximize efficiency above all else.

Hey K-man, I don’t want to sound too corny here but I know that everybody misses you a lot and is looking forward to your return. Hope everything has been good!

I came across a good quote recently: ‘If you torture the data long enough, it will confess to anything’.

If only it applied to guitars.
