I hope that somebody opens up that rhythm creator and there’s just a raspberry pi inside.

I am waiting for someone to post a teardown

I am interested in that device and like to get my hands on it, but that price can fuck right off.
Also all these vids about it, it’s like a bunch of clowns that never used a drum machine in their life.

I still can’t really understand the excitement about a machine that can’t be played chromatically, can only p-lock what’s assigned to the handful of knobs for each channel, only has one LFO per channel, blah blah blah…

Is what all them fuckers raving about the t100 would be saying if it had Elektron written on it instead of Roland.

Whether people are doing it consciously or not (I know I am) it’s only natural that people are going to take the opportunity to rinse out the people that spend half their time on here shitting on everything when given the opportunity.

People are complaing that it’s getting personal, and of course it’s personal. Most of the arguing isn’t about the gear, it’s about people’s behaviour on here and how much people wind each other up with their neggy bullshit.

We aint peaked yet - wait till the Riddum / Jamaican inspired TE is unveiled - this place will explode (or rather implode) with another TE device!

I’m packing for a trip to London where I will see some of it in person (and a lot else). When I return, I’ll drop some links there.

Please do post links. I like the art of the era. Once visited a very nice Neue Sachlichkeit exhibition in Cologne.

Nah, man. You can’t say that people raving about the TR-1000 would be criticizing an Elektron with the same specs. If you actually go and check it out, nearly everyone says the Elektron sequencer and parameter engines are better, at least on this forum. But maybe that’s not ALL there is to it? Maybe it’s more than just the sequencer / p-locks LFO?

I do agree, or at least think we agree, that’s it’s personal because the gear is just a proxy for being able to judge someone else. Judgment is a power trip. It’s you deeply believing that someone is wrong. And being wrong is bad. Or weak. Or pathetic. In the real world, we might have these thoughts but we can’t always express or act on them. There are repercussions. But online, behind aliases and avatars, there are no repercussions. If you get banned, just make another account.

I believe the negging as you say is a reflection of a deep insecurity and that insecurity is fundamentally a lack of agency in one’s life. In the real physical world we embody, most of us don’t have the agency we want. But online, in the virtual reality, we can have agency in the form of judgement. We can have agency in the form of being “smart.” We can have agency in the forms of likes and attention. It’s not real, it’s temporary but it’s there.

But what we can really do is emotionally discharge our feeling from lacking the agency in the real world. Anyway time for coffee.

I should make myself clearer.

I’m not talking about people that are excited about the t800, I’m talking about the dozen or so people who loudly shit on everything round here, but then act all surprised when people are queuing up to shit on the thing they’re excited about.

The unfortunate side effect is that people inevitably get dragged into it that are just excited about a cool new thing.

and so the cycle continues…

I’m finally gonna have to mute most of the TE threads at that point. And probably a handful of others.

I don’t like how the classism around here starts to become more apparent once people have the opportunity to start grouping themselves into “bought it” clubs.

Bullseye take. Recently I have been struggling with not overthinking how music genres and by extension gear map to social backgrounds - inherited and aspirational.

The strong link between SP404s and the usual associated genres comes to mind. Is wanting to build a eurorack system just another symptom of my social status? And let’s not get started with my background in jazz, classical, and middle class europeanness.

There’s a difference between what something can do, and how it’s presented.

Your take on cultural appropriation around the EP-40 comes to mind. I don’t necessarily agree with it (I’m undecided yet and I’d want to see more) but I had the same interrogation, and that discussion derailed too quickly to give it justice.

Bloody Internet, where one can’t have a proper conversation!
