So, after being an early adopter (and big fan) of the OG Minilogue, I just made the jump to the XD. Mainly for the CV control, as i’ve been developing a little eurorack box over the last year. However there seems to be a bug, or perhaps just poorly thought out programming, wrt how CV is handled in terms of the display. Basically, as soon as I have any CV coming in, the voltage is shown on the display. So far so good (although I wish they could have used the top of the screen as well, so you could see both CV values at the same time).
However, with a voltage e.g. a sine LFO constantly moving, this ‘occupies’ the space where the values of a parameter being tweaked by the physical knobs, such that if I move e.g. filter cutoff, I cannot actually see the values I’m moving from or to.
Similarly, if I’m changing anything in the effects section, while any CV signal is being sent, I cannot see what I’m changing to.
Have searched manual/forums but nobody is talking about this. I normally use (and love) the scaled knob behaviour on the ML, where parameter values don’t correspond to physical knob positions (but also don’t ‘jump’), but in this use case you need to be able to see on the display the value of the parameter you’re moving.
I made a video - sorry for poor quality/viewing angle, but you can easily see what i mean…
Seem like a pretty big issue - not being able to see values of parameters as soon as you have CV going…!
If you’re using CV with your units, do you also have this issue? any workaround?
Have the exact same issue. It’s a shame and annoying.
The XD has a couple of settings for display (from the manual):
Button 8 (GLOBAL 6)
Normal: Only major information such as operating the pitch-related knobs or switching the effect types will be displayed.
All: When any knob except for the MASTER knob and the MULTI ENGINE TYPE knob are turned, the value is shown; and when operating a switch, the setting is shown.
Believe these are the only 2 options and neither provides the functionality.
…which I plan to stick with velcro on the top left of the ML chassis. If i want to see the values of parameters, I can just ‘mute’ the CV signal temporarily with these. Added benefit is having attenuators at hand without menu diving
Still hoping they fix that issue at some point (as well as other improvements e.g. sequencer offset and transpose), but not holding my breath on those!
I still use mine and it has a nice, dirty filter with the user FX and oscillators its most interesting feature by far. Despite an annoying click when using the user oscillator I’ve hung onto it as the number of things I like outweigh those that bug me. The buttons feel really cheap though and several have lost their ‘click’.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Pity about the buttons. what’s the click with the user oscillator, and is it only occurring with the user ones, or also the ones provided by Korg?
I reported the click on day 2 of owning mine and Korg ‘support’ fobbed me off for almost a year saying they were going to tackle it. It affects osc3 but is more obvious with some types than others; my suspicion is it’s caused by a virtual VCA/envelope for that oscillator whose envelope is ‘reset to zero’ - fortunately the one place in this synth they reverted to doing that silly thing. (My reasoning is that the click is not audible when you play legato.)
It’s most noticeable in mono patches and not many other users find it an issue so therefore Korg were happy to leave it be. It doesn’t affect osc1 & 2.
…is ist possible to play the minilogue xd in a “monophonic” way? There is the voice mode “unison”, but always with stacked osc…mayber there is a setting in it, like note priority?
So I’ve had this for a few days and have it mostly sorted. Is it crazy that I’m loving the sound of the XD more than the Rev2 or the Pro 2? Something more visceral and 3D about it… excellent fx help as well.
Never owned any other analog polysynth so I can’t make the comparison, but I’ve made a point of not doing too much with the multi engine until I’ve exhausted all timbral possibility from the analog section of the XD. I’ve owned it for almost two years and I do use the multi engine but rarely, since I’m usually satisfied with what the analog oscillators are doing, or found yet another new little pocket to explore.
The amount of stuff you can do to the sound pre-filter is really impressive. Not to mention my occasional dabbling with the DT or OT to lend some LFOs for total step-by-step randomization of MIDI CC on the xd.
I also really want to make some custom oscillators but still haven’t found my way into DSP in any meaningful way. Locked out by walls of math equations that I don’t currently understand
Has anyone figured out of there’s a way to map the joystick Y+ movement to the standard mod strip of a Keystep? It’s so stupid that they didn’t set this up properly. Yes I know that the joystick has two separate CC values for the Y+ and Y- movements, but since they’re mutually exclusive, they should have picked on of them for the standard mod CC.
I’m late to this party and this is probably discussed somewhere in the previous 400 posts, but . . .
Do any 3rd party user oscillators give you an additional envelope for the multi-engine’s amp or filter? I’m curious to know how feasible bi-timbral sounds are.
