Midi notes re-trigging on release

I have an arturia keystep37 controlling my digitone 2 via midi. I have a problem when playing multiple keys, they retrig the midi once the keys are released which replays the notes again.
I’ve seen other people have this problem on Reddit with different keyboards but no one seems to have an answer.
The keystep works fine in ableton on its own but always has this problem when controlling the digitone. It’s updated and I’ve looked through all the settings but can’t find anything the correlates.
Has anyone had this problem or know what it might be? Thanks

Hi,

I might have read about this issue with double triggering but I’m not sure if it was for DN2 specifically.

There’s a bug reports thread where you might have better luck getting some confirmation if other owners have had the same issue. You’d have to take a look at the posts to see what people have said. You can search within a single topic by using the “in this topic” part of the search bar.

My recommendation would be to test with another midi controller and check with a midi monitor to make sure the keystep is only sending the note once.

Make sure that your firmware is current and if the issue persists with other keyboards and not just the keystep and your firmware is current, I’d say it might be best to contact elektron support using the contact form in your account on the elektron.se website.

Good luck

I use the Keystep 37 with the DNII regularly, and have no problem, so you should be able to sort this out.

Make sure both devices are updated the to the latest firmware.
And please provide details on your setup:

  • what is plugged to what, in MIDI and USB
  • do you use a MIDI hub or a computer?
  • have you tried only Keystep + DNII with a MIDI cable?

Hi, thanks.
I have both the keystep and digitone powered on separate sockets with the original cables. And they’re connected via a good Roland midi cable(out the keystep and into the digitone) with no other devices connected. The digitone is up to date and the keystep is brand new yesterday so assuming that will be updated but I will double check on that. I have just tried using my proper keyboard in this setup and the same issue is happening. I have also tried just the keystep and abletone (usb cable to my laptop) and the problem doesn’t happen so it must be the digitone?

Just to confirm, you tried in a fresh, new project already?

Hi thanks for the help.
The digitone has the latest firmware and I have also tried using my proper keyboard in this setup and the same issue is happening. I have also tried just the keystep and abletone (usb cable to my laptop) and the problem doesn’t happen so it must be the digitone? I’ll have have a look at those reports and contact elektron :). I might try usb to usb to see if that changes but this shouldn’t be a problem using a midi cable right?

No I will try that👍🏻

It’s unlikely to be the cable but worth testing if you have another one handy. Digitone is not a USB host device so you’ll need to go midi keyboard into your computer and route the ableton or other midi to digitone via USB. So it’s not a proper test of the keystep, but should confirm that the behavior issue is on the digitone side.

The issue does not happen on the hardware itself in chromatic mode, only via midi?

Creating a new project has solved it! And now the other projects work aswel. Must have just needed starting fresh? Thanks for the help!

No problem, glad that solved it. Sounds like just a software glitch but if it happens again, take note of the circumstance and see if the issue is reproduceable. If so, I’d definitely encourage you to file a bug report.
