Micromonsta 2

*playing with it*

Okay, the per-patch arp is a ton of fun, too.

Oh no ! I was banking on getting one of the next batch !

Bravo! Great that you’ve implemented bitimbral MPE too. I always said I’d grab one of these once MPE was insde, especially since you included everything I asked for in the design requests. I’m in the UK too so curious as how to get hold of one? I didn’t realise you were no longer shipping here?

Congrats for last update!

MM2 was already epic! For me new update is a really good but logical evolution to apply planned features (MPE), correct some limitations, @elektrosamplist listening to users feature requests, not a revolution. I didn’t expect EQ, Chorus, Delay sync (delay breaker otherwise) ! Not the last update I hope!

Personal main feature request : a way to trigger sounds standalone, at least with 1 button, using arp, ideally with 2 octaves ±1 buttons and 9 notes, different scales. Would be great to make patches anywhere with a little power bank. Already done with Typhon on the beach, great feelings…

User Wavetable was planned, still waiting…
Higher pitch range for oscs!

Amazing update, didn’t hope that chorus that will free the delay. Anyway I have to try 3 detuned supersaw waveforms with chorus, chorus with delay, unison…

Just one problem, I downloaded the firmware update .syx file, but do not know how to send this to my MM2.
No problem with patches save/upload with SysExLibrarian on Mac, but can’t find anywhere how to upgrade.
Thanks a lot

In Download MM2 :

Plug your MM2 to your computer (via USB) while pressing both A and B buttons.
Screen should say ā€œFirmware Updaterā€
Send the syx (SYSEX) update file with SYSEX Librarian, MIDI Ox or Bome Send SX, all should work (use USB MIDI only)

Thanks a lot Will! Just discovered the .txt ā€œhow to upgradeā€ file in the Download section…should have read better.
Thanks again!

We did ship a few Doctor A after Brexit but I am not sure if we will re-open orders from UK for the next batch yet.
The rules your government imposes to foreign companies are just silly (and it looks like they’re not really helping local companies too so…)

Don’t forget you can also stack 2 programs

One of the things from my previous designs I missed the most

I wouldn’t argue with that, but I would hate not to be able to buy an MM2 because of it. If you find it necessary to put a premium on UK sales due to extra paperwork I will be blaming the UK government, not you (speaking for myself).

The blackbox is a great pairing with anything !

Actually the blackbox can even power your MM2.

It’s not really about paperwork, as we’re used to shipping outside of the EU, we know how to handle that, but UK wants all companies to register in the UK and in some cases (low value shipments) they want the companies to collect and pay back VAT to the UK, instead of letting the customs do their job.
This will make it difficult for UK customers to understand when and whom they will pay VAT.

For example: buy a $300 synth, you pay VAT to the customs. But buy a $50 cable and you’ll have to pay VAT to the shop, and the shop will have to declare that each month or so to the UK government and pay that collected VAT back. Imagine if every country have the same requirement…

In real life, I think it won’t change a lot as I doubt every chinese company on aliexpress will register to sell and ship $5 stuff to UK.

I’ve asked all carriers I know, and they don’t really know how we should proceed, they just copy/paste the UK requirements and take money without real guarantee on what will happen if we are not UK registered.
I’ve asked other manufacturers about their shipments to the UK, it seems like shipping there like we usually ship to the US is working, and that is our experience too, but for how long?

I’m also still excited for a way to trigger standalone

Appreciate your reply, thanks. Interestingly, you seem to be saying that for higher value items like the MM2, shipping to the UK is not unlike shipping to the US. Sure, it’s a change to UK customers to now have to pay VAT for these items on entry to the uk (versus point of sale), but I think everyone should be used to that by now ?

Totally appreciate that you wouldn’t want to be selling 15€ cables to the UK under the current rules, that would seem to incur a massive overhead (not just per transaction).

Could we twist your arm to take the same option as the other manufacturers you’ve talked to, and ship to the UK (assuming I’ve understood you correctly) ?

EDIT: Ah sorry … just re-read your post … you’re saying there appears to be a requirement to register for VAT even for the higher value items ?

Yes the basic requirement is to register, even if you never collect anything, which is kinda silly (I just imagine the amount of work for the UK administration). And we have to do it offline, sending letters…

But honestly I highly doubt that small to mid companies will ever do it.
They will ship and see what happens. That’s what most companies do today anyway (because the waiting time to be registered is at least a couple months if I’m not wrong, maybe even longer now with the new rules), or they don’t ship at all.
They are a couple articles on BBC about that subject, this is a lose/lose situation unfortunately.
I understand they want to protect the UK companies, which is perfectly OK, but it seems like it’s not really the case in the end.

Sorry for the off-topic BTW

I’d say it’s on-topic for those of us (at least 3 I think I counted) in the UK who want to buy an MM2.

As it concerns MM2, I’d also think it’s on topic! :content:
As a French neighbor I’m also curious about post Brexit new rules…

I believe there was a thread about it here on elektronauts but I cannot find it anymore now…

Would you be interested in dealing with independent UK electronic instrument outlets? I would gladly let my local https://elevatorsound.com/ know i’m after one, place is run by a very friendly dude. Just wondering whether it might be easier to navigate more of a bulk shipment.

Obviously that’s your call, I have no idea and I imagine the whole thing is more of a headache than I would want anyone to suffer through whilst also making a genuinely impressive instrument during a pandemic. Congrats on your hard work, it shows.

It was hidden iirc.
I don’t believe it’s off topic when you talk about how you run your business.

Thanks for the explanation. I will find a way to get one I’m sure when there’s more out there. I never voted for any of this, it does sound like a bit of a nightmare.
