MFB Tanzbär 2

I’d think it goes above and beyond. I too was looking at both and comparing. If you are buying used, I’d definately go t2 as the used prices for the tanzmaus are pretty high imo

Thanks. Yeah, the Tanzmaus second hand goes for its retail price when it was out and about. Like the Tanzbar, the first one, it’s essentially buying it second hand for the price of a new one.

It has a very distinct character, like all MFB drummers do, and while I don’t doubt the Tanzbär kicks like a mule, I do want that very specific something the Maus has. But it would make sense, given the feature set of the Tanzbär2, that it’s the Maus and the Tanzbär lite and then some.

I’ve owned the maus before. Wouldn’t go that route again, even though I liked it, and would get it over with and buy the tanzbar

Solid advise. Thanks. I’m gonna go for a trial on the Tanzbär 2, with refund option, and give it a spin. I’ll know within a few days if it has the mojo I’m after.

I actually had it briefly when it was brand new. I quite liked it, but then and there, I was more into the original Tanzbar sound, and as I recall, it didn’t do much of that. Which I kind of liked, that they’re their own drummers, so I could appreciate it was its own thing. Just not the thing I was after at that point.

But shit changes and now I’m looking for the Tanzmaus sound again. I’m gonna give this a go. Thanks for the advise, man.

I own both a Tanzbar 2 and a Tanzmaus at the moment. Previously had a Tanzbar 1.

Sonically, the Tanzbar 2 is superior. The synth is solid, the main kick drum has more variety, etc etc. The only exception to this is the sampler has a bit of a click during playback, but with percussive samples you’ll never notice it.

Interface wise… the Tanzmaus design is way more refined. The Tanzbar 2 buttons feel like crap, way too heavy to click. The encoder values jump about because they used too cheap components. Loading samples is pretty unbearable, you have to do one at a time and it doesn’t always work, which is obnoxious for how many samples are on the machine. You can really feel how they rushed the machine out.

I still use my Tanzbar 2, sequenced by other gear. If I’m ever jamming with someone, I use the Tanzmaus.

p.s. I sold my Tanzbar 1 because I was worried it’d die on me. Kinda regret it now tho. I wonder how many of them still function.

Ah, ok. It’s that bad, huh? I guess I’ll hold, then. Do like I always do. Ponder. Google. Ask for advise. Make a decision. And don’t follow through, ending up buying nothing

Tb 1 always seems to die soon haha. But no, I even brought it to my jam mondays at a squat (also to use the state of the art sequencer for erebus) for guests to use
(no autosave, no „dont touch this button please“ as with a4)
But without effects, so that I annoyed the people probably with the sound
Sometimes with effects it sounds nice to me, often not ( snare and clap mostly), maybe with well chosen effects and knowledge its another thing.
With headphones it hurts me…
There wasnt tanzmaus yet when I bought it, would have preferred that a bit ( matter of taste) Soundwise also drumatix acidlab , but there no midi clock out, parameter record and no funny sequencer. I regret my choice often, when I put in a snare or clap and it sounds boring, also not to choose rytm because of autosave headache…

Best is the bugs that make parameter record and other stuff (roll record) work simpler as described in the manual. Bend also works ( somehow, sometimes…)

Maybe just get a Tanzmaus and a Tanzbär Lite?

Yea, the unprocessed sound is definitely something you have to work with in a live context. I’m sure I’ve gotten too “in your face” with it as well :P. The machine shines a lot with processing. I often high-pass/compress the kick and filter the snare/hats, pretty standard. I try to man the mixer when I jam with it, and bring a zoom pedal or something.

I’ve started using my Tanz2 as a drum module sequenced by Drambo in iOS. That way I can use the Tanz2 for some of the drum sounds but also have more digital/sample sources and really spice things up. The Tanzbar’s on their own are fairly limited (even if they sound beast).

Not a bad path! I’d stalk a Tanzmaus and grab that, and if you desire more analog get the Lite.

I bet the Tanzmaus will continue to hold value, not a lot of analog drum machines coming out anymore and its definitely one of the best.

I can’t find a tanzbar 2 for sale anywhere. Anyone know where to buy one or if they’re available anymore?

I guess so. I just looked at Thomann and it’s « on request « only.

I might sell mine

I still think sound wise, the tanzmaus is up there with the all time greats. I’ve had the lite, the 1 and the 2. I think the maus is king!
