MFB Tanzbär 2

@circuitghost This! Every sentence of it!

I also liked tb1 better, as it was more focused. And I also felt somewhat lost. Too complex and too many features for a drummachine only. too complex in its workflow and also missing effects and missing sequencer capabilities to really be used as a groove box.

Reluctantly sold mine, but then never looked back.

Thanks Rob for that insightful reply. Just to let you know I’m pretty new to all of this. When I got started 3 1/2 years ago I bought a Tr-09 & the Tr-03 & was just trying it out & see how it goes. I eventually bought the Tr8 w/the sh01a & Korg Volca FM & started jamming with all of them. I like the work flow on all five. I was able to come up with jams and sounds that I was a big fan of for example Plastikman(90’s stuff), Advent, Surgeon(early downwards) Cari Lekebusch(early hybrid style) Detroit, & circa 91-99 minimal techno style etc. So I decided to try something new & bought a DIgitakt & men was that night & day experience. Dont get me wrong I like my Elektron but it doesn’t have the same work flow as the Rolands & Korg. I was more playing around with the parameters than jamming & coming up with beats. I’m not a really big fan of the minimal techno that’s coming up recently. I love the 92-99 techno style. Anyways for me the Elektron was not giving me that sound & feeling. It sounded more the sound of techno now, so when I saw & heard this MFB T2, it brought me back to that 90’s techno era. I felt that this machine was made to do that Techno style that I wanted. Its raw, dirty, and very organic. I have been torn for a year now in deciding to buy one mainly because of all the bugs and work flow issues that I have read, but then I’ll read up on comments how easy and how the bugs is just part of what makes the T2 special. Just like the TR8 its not a perfect machine but I find ways to work around it & I believe that gives its character. Obtw I understand about what you said about forgetting the next day, I was going through that with my Digitakt, and I’m still trying to learn & master that damn thing. Now as far as the T2 having a learning curve I do agree the sounds are amazing. So here I am contemplating if I should take a leaf of faith, or just save up for Jomox Alpha. But to hear that T2 sound in my studio monitors is what keeps wanting to click on “buy”. :joy: I wonder if I will get charge on some ridiculous custom charges if I order it in UK and me living in US. Anyways we shall see…

This is what I use now although this year I’ll be building a modular 808/909 which I think will be much fun to do

Hey man, I’m sorry, I wouldn’t know. Was a long time I had it and I don’t recall the details on the power outlet.

A post was split to a new topic: Off topic / tanzbar 2 buy request, new user without marketplace privileges

I have been lusting over a Tanzbär (MK1) for ages now. I was totally focused on the MK1, just loving the sound, knowing its really good. You can read different stuff about how the sound of the MK2 seems to be degraded. I just browsed youtube and listened to some MK2 demos (techno/house) and dahaaaaaaaaamn, I’m GASing for the MK2 now. Its a beast! Doesnt really seem degraded to me.

I used to own a tanzmaus and liked the sample slots. The MK2 seems to combine all the stuff of their machines.
I own a RYTM MK1 and all I have to do now is talk myself into the Tanzbär MK2. All the benefits of owning both machines.

You can’t have too many drum machines, can you?^^

I personally think the MK2 sounds great, though the MK1 was nice as well. I think the MK2 is more versatile and responds really well to processing.

Workflow on the MK2 is even worse than the MK1 overall, imo. If you already have a RYTM though, maybe getting a Tanzmaus would be a good choice? Cheaper/smaller and you still get a lot of that analog flavor. Also has the LFOs which were a great addition after the MK1.

I’ve been enjoying my MK2 the most now that I use an external sequencer. The only downside is that you can’t do glides with the synth.

MFB Tanzbar 2 user here, purchased end of July, 2020. Unit arrived in beautiful shape, and all works well except the Synth part, for which there is a very noticeable click sound that makes it (for all intensive purposes) unusable. I am also thinking this must be DSP related, and not necessarily related to additional samples being installed, etc., just one part or another starting to click. I’m on v. 1.07 (came with the newest, confirmed after OS download today). I’ve contacted MFB but nothing yet. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I’m wondering if there is a factory reset, I can’t find it in the manual? Thanks

I haven’t had any problems with clicks with the Synth. The filters don’t “click” on me.

That being said, I’d had problems with clicking on all the digital parts and I think that’s a DSP issue? I’m not sure if the synth waveform is analog or digital, if its the latter maybe I’ve overlooked the clickiness.

The Synth part is analog oscillator and filter but I guess I’m not entirely convinced its a 100% analog path given what I’ve heard others say about clicking on other instrument parts. Curious because mine Only clicks on the Synth part, despite any settings changes. I have not loaded any external samples. I’ll post some audio soon, I’d like to hear if it is similar to what anyone else is experiencing.

I wish MFB would just do an Airbase-style drum expander version of the Tanzbar concept because the interfaces of their drum machines have become worse and worse. If all they care about is getting the circuitry to sound great (which they do) then why do they bother trying to make grooveboxes at all?

I would prefer to get the Rytm Mk2 since I already know Elektron workflow and prefer touch pads on it over the tiny knobs of Tanzbar.

I still miss my Tanzmaus. Ran that poor kit to the ground and it’s not avaiable to buy now, except for the random post on Reverb.

Only way to get the MFB drum sound right now, if you’re shopping second hand and you’re lucky to find a unit in good condition, is to get a Tanzbar 2, it seems. But man, it’s overkill if all you ever needed was another Tanzmaus.

If you like the sound get the MFB 501 Pro module. It has all the sounds and also sample support. It‘s a great little box and source for sampling.

What’s that now? It has the Tanzmaus sounds and sample vibe, you say?

Very cool, but far removed from the Tanzmaus sound, I’d say.

Anyone here owning the Tanzbär2 and has experience with the Tanzmaus, can comment on the difference in sound character? I’m shopping for a new Tanzmaus but would be prepared to go the extra mile for the T2 if it’s close to Tanzmaus in character.
