macOS Tahoe

FYI folks I updated to Tahoe at home (Mac Studio M1 Ultra). Anybody got any weirdness to report? Initially I had trouble with the OS seeing some ADAT channels on my audio device - a Cranborne 500R8 - but it turns out you just need to enable it in Audio MIDI Setup.

are those in class compliant mode or relying on drivers?
I want to upgrade too asap but not sure about the current motu driver vs tahoe, maybe worth waiting a bit

I’ve only noticed transparent icons so far … and a few new things in search function

Is this what the entire mac community have gone ape shit over for months ? ( yes I know there are videos and websites full of ā€˜top new things’ , all full of affiliate links and the need for constant engagement )

I’m not running any audio hardware … just downloading tv and browsing the web … ableton seemed to work . Overbridge apps loaded up but I’ve not tried it connected to hardware .

Dont update to MacOS Tahoe until you absolutely must. This happens with almost every new macOS version, it breaks stuff until software devs can catch up. On a critical work machine, its better to stay at least one macOS version behind the curve IME.

This has been the same thing since macos 7 to my recollection…

Your results may vary but I’ve been running the Tahoe Beta for months with no issues from my UltraLite mk5.

Presonus is always a problem for me with macOS updates though.

audio interfaces are not the only bits which might be affected. All your DAWs and VSTs need to be compatible as well, and depending on your studio, that might be a long list of items…

that is good news as I’m also running ULmk5, the buzz about how bad tahoe was overwhelming so I thought I’d be cautious this time, usually I upgrade as soon as the update appears in the settings.
I’ll wait a bit until next week and update.

I’m still putting off upgrading to Sequoia, I’m terrified my Clarett 8pre will stop connecting!

Mac mini m1 with RME Babyface Pro here. Gave not updated yet but the last few updates never brought any trouble.

Sequoia works great, why upgrade when everything works smoothly, after all macOS Sequoia will still have all the security updates and bug fixes. I won’t upgrade to Tahoe before Q1 2026. Apple liquid glass BS is the last thing I want.

For the past decade or so, I’ve kept my Macs one major revision behind, but always up to date on minor releases and security patches. So, for example, now that Tahoe is out, I’m about ready to move to Sequoia. There might be some odd exceptions, but usually by the time I’m ready to update, all the audio software has had a chance to catch up.

I also do this for my work Macs (not audio work) and have never had any issues.

I updated to iPadOS 26 just to get a proper mouse cursor for the iPad, but I dont use my iPad for anything serious so it was worth the risk. Not going to touch Tahoe until macOS 27 comes out, thats just me

Not much noticeable ā€œLiquid Glassā€ effect on the MacOS.

Also changing / customising folder colours and icons is nice but as soon as you drag a folder to the menu bar or finder sidebar the customisation goes out the window

Class compliant. Cranborne 500R8 and SSL BiG SiX. And it’s only ADAT, but if you use ADAT…

This is a general thing, nothing to do with Mac per se. Releasing a new OS version will inherently cause bugs and regressions. There’s no way for a QA team to be able to test all scenarios and variables the customers will introduce before release. I would consider a release a beta until 6 months in, and don’t update unless it’s critical before that point. Bro.

Somebody’s gonna do it, and it’s better they know beforehand if there’s problems. Bro

I updated my work laptop (office apps, statistical apps, mail app, web browsers), all that stuff generally works just fine. Windows are round and bubbly.

I’ll wait for whatever the equivalent of a .1 release for my music workstation. It’s always safest to do that with major OSX releases.

They do be bubbly!

I’ve upgrade my Mac mini M1 to Tahoe and so far everything seems to be fine.

I have my Digitakt 2 and A4 MKI connected to a beta version of Ableton Live 12.3 with all the tracks of both devices going in via Overbridge and it all works fine.

Even my aging Focusrite Clarett 4Pre is working as expected.

Y’all are brave. Not touching the new macOS anytime soon. Glad you early adopters are taking one for the team. I updated the iPad and iPhone. Absolutely hate the Liquid Glass nonsense so had to search out how to defeat it which was easy enough. ā€œReduce transparencyā€ in accessibility display text settings. Also they made the clock on the lock screen transparent for some dumb reason. Ya have to customize the lock screen to get rid of it. No big deal. Astoundingly bad UI decisions for this update
