Machina Bristronica videodump!
Bull Frog Drum Machine? How is it?
I honestly didn’t get much time with it. Took a minute to get the hang of switching between tracks but it’s solid, the buttons are satisfying, the knobs have the expected Erica Synths quality feeling and the per-track drive sounds great.
I did talk to them about the Tonverk - they basically said what we know, it’s a prototype and there’s no further information at present… I was hoping the little autoharp thing and the Casio keyboard they had to play with might be some sort of cryptic clue about the Tonverk.
Behind closed doors ??? Hopefully they got a machine active and avoided the dodgy screens that are full of lines .
I notice there’s no visible lead plugged in - cue inane conspiracies about batteries ( sorry off topic )
I didn’t go to Bristol , was too lazy. Did anyone see London modular alliance at the club event ?
Or off-piste !
There was a Polyend leak several days after a show, and the Arturia PB12, and Astrolab video leak took even longer iirc.
The torso gear looked nice until he mentioned £800 price tag on that granular box.
ah didn’t realize you were going to be there! i attended yesterday (and walked around mindlessly until surgeon, so i could have enjoyed some company lol) but i skipped today unfortunately i had to deal with last minute problems of my flat.
Ah man, it would have been cool to meet you! Hopefully next time. In fairness we got there late the first day and the second I was focusing on filming. Next year I’ll be there earlier on the first day for sure.
Was lovely to chat with Urs Heckmann (U-He)! What a lovely guy, really well spoken and kind but also incredibly knowledgeable. We were talking about their Wiretap module, the business of releasing modular synths in today’s climate and the way Nick Batt used endless instances of DIVA to stress test the M1 chip when Apple released their new silicon MacBooks.
Was hoping to speak to Girts on day 2 but couldn’t find him. Erica Synths’ Steampipe synth is AMAZING. Seriously gorgeous sounding physical modelling loveliness.
Soma’s stand I think we spent the most amount of time at - their Terra is a thing of pure joy and I’m gonna save up for one. Sounds beautiful but most importantly it’s a blast to play. Very intuitive and expressive.
Ableton were lovely as well, they demo’d the Move for us (mine had arrived while I was out on day 1) and I’m excited to get stuck into it when I’m back from work today. They had a Push 3 and we were laughing how it was relegated as an audio interface for the Move for my brief video.
Did you see the new Syntakt machines?
Sadly no - I did play with the Syntakt though and I had a really good time! I may prefer using it to the Rytm, love the easy control-all and those grotty digital Model Cycles machines. Was gonna record it but @Tikoda had made the pattern and I didn’t want to steal the glory haha.
Had a great time there, but was having so much fun I forgot to take notes or take many photos. Few highlights I remember:
The Love Synthesizer FM synth prototype was a lot of fun, looking forward to seeing how that develops. Looks very intuitive and immediate.
Supercritical Redshift also sounded amazing, and the price they’re offering it for it’s going to be very tempting. A bit of menu diving, but also a ton of immediacy available.
All of Schlappi Engineering’s eurorack modules were super interesting, and probably going to be quite tempting (esp. the Three Body).
Played with the Joranalogue/Hainbach module a fair bit. Seemed pretty deep and would be a lot of fun to spend time exploring, though felt more like a standalone thing to explore, I can’t really get my head round how I’d pair it with other things.
Plus lots of great live music and talks…would definitely attend again.

More on the Metal Fetishist from Berlin based startup Body Synths that was shown before at Superbooth ( post )
I loved the metal fetish was pretty brutal and the chap gave me a great demo. Think around £350 so tempted……
The Shakmat Modular talk was great. The kick module sounded awesome!
Haha! That precious pattern
Was right lovely to see you!
I enjoyed the syntakt might be the next purchase…
