Thanks for the reply, I didn’t know m8c was a thing. I was asking about the browser because I was under the impression that the only display client for m8 was a web application that had to be run in Chrome.
When I placed my order, people were saying how immersive it was to work with. They weren’t kidding
Still on my baby steps trying to make my output sound alright while figuring out my navigation of the unit, but its just so compelling to work with- in a way I wouldn’t have figured going into it.
The feel of the unit and the UI makes it such a pleasure to work with.
It was so worth the money/wait- this thing is a dream.
I can’t wait to find my way around sampling with it!
I wouldn’t be able to afford it at that price either and I’m very thankful he is trying to keep the price down. I’m just saying he shouldn’t worry about $100 price increase, especially when he is saying there is a financial challenge for him between making more units and paying rent.
By all accounts of the new owners, the M8 looks like a triumph and he should feel comfortable increasing the price related to his needs. He is going to sell out of M8s either way. The Polyend is $650 and this is essentially a pocket-sized equivalent (if not an improvement), major companies are selling decade-old samplers that can’t hold a candle to this at $500-$700 and people are still buying them, you have companies selling out stock of $600 guitar pedals, crazy prices on Eurorack modules. He is definitely underpricing it for what the market would pay.
Not gonna lie, I sold my PT & haven’t missed it at all since I got the M8. Disregarding it’s size, it’s a no brain upgrade to me. I feel comfortable saying the M8 value exceeds $550.
I think he could sell it at $800 to rival the DT and still sell out
Echoing the previous comments about the build quality. It looks and feels like a - gawd I kinda hate this word - “professional” piece of gear.
I love the feel of the buttons - something very satisfying about tapping on them.
@trash80 noticed a hardly recognizable, hardly an issue quirk in the software
If you save with a project name, clear out the project name, and then try to save: it doesn’t warn you, nor does it save.
Definitely preferable to overwriting template projects, but I could see it having an affect on a user experience.
Beautiful piece of kit. I love this thing, thanks a lot!
Got it thanks. Will be addressed with a bunch of other small fixes on 2.0.8 soon. On another note (and missing from the manual) if you save a song named TEMPLATE in /System it will be the default when you create a new song.
Neat! Thanks!
Day 3 now and still learning the ropes. I think the biggest thing for me was understanding the relationship between the phrases, chains, and tracks in the song. I’m so used to being locked into a structure where a sound exists on a track and the patterns also exist in that track. So learning and getting over the fact that you can place any phrase on any chain and any chain on any track took a bit but I can see how that will allow for some freedom that I wasn’t anticipating. And of course changing any instrument to any step though coming from Elektron gear that’s not too foreign.
Also it seems that even though tables are defaulted to their instrument (instrument 01 connects to table 01 by default) you can use a command code to have another instrument jump to that table and back… Pretty crazy. I haven’t figured out a practical use for that quite yet but yeah…
This whole way of making music is really interesting. And again, really loving the synth engines. Made a dope 808 bass with the final algorithm on the FM engine (essentially a 4 osc subtractive synth) where I did the typical pitch mod env to make that initial hit sound but then I turned one of the Oscillators into a noise osc to give some extra character and drove it a bit… Quickly pumped out a basic trap beat and it sounded dope.
whaat, I didn’t know it had a touch screen lol
How do I erase characters as I’m naming my Project? Current name is “11111-” because I can’t figure out how to backspace/delete.
I see there’s a Discord for M8 Tracker but it’s only for announcements right?
Press options and edit at the same time
That just keeps adding more “1” characters to the name
I’ve been trying to follow this tutorial. There are two problems with it:
- He does not explain how edit the project name
- He does not explain how to create a chain completely from scratch.
He sounds like a nice guy though.
I don’t have one yet but the discord is pretty active. There’s a “help me” section for specific questions.
All I see in the Discord are a Rules channel and an Announcments channel
You gotta go to the rules and respond with the blue thumbs up looking thing.
Highlight the character, hold option, press edit while still holding option
