You can certainly use RMXxx (usually 00 at the top of a phrase on track 8) to sync up everything, but the behaviour will be different in that chain islands will continue to loop until that point, which you may or may not want. But it is good for reining things in if you’re running tracks asynchronously.
I use FE for blanks and FE for kill.
But other than that, I have started to not care at all. I just double tap the button and let it all go crazy.
But I always keep kicks on track 1, bass on track 5 etc, so I know what kind of sounds I have on the tracks .
Maybe there are some downfalls with this workflow, but it works pretty well for me at least. In the beginning I was very cautious about phrase numbers etc
Yeah seems like you really need to start projects with some planning and structure, which I’m not used to. I like the idea of chains 00~0F for blanks and stops, and then chains 10~1F, 20~2F etc for tracks 1, 2 etc. Of course that’s just 16 chains per track but that’s probably plenty for me
I’m getting used to it!
There are two schools of naming non-empty phrases. You have described the more organized one. I’m on Team Let Clone Take Care Of It For You.
Embracing the chaos is my preference. You can use bookmarks to highlight important sections etc (triple tap opt in the song screen)
Right, the chains 10~1F, 20~2F etc for tracks 1, 2 concept is great… but then I realized phrases are shared/global too, and 16 per track definitely won’t be enough, so arggggggggh
Embrace the chaos I guess
Two questions:
- There’s a tiny keyboard on the right of the display that’s not mentioned in the manual (that I could see) - what is this telling me?
- Transposing a phrase on the chain view - is this really locked/quantized into the project’s (or track’s) scale? If so that seems miraculously good, something even Elektron hasn’t pulled off
someone on here taught me to embrace the chaos, clone / deep clone that mfkr and forget about it.
when I did it was a eureka moment. I was flying around from that moment on.
its just a visual indicator that shows where the active note would fall on a keyboard. its nice for the chord engines just as a reference point
yepyep, if you set a scale, it will stay locked to the scale through the phrase transpositions
My finger is hovering over the order button and the only thing that keeps it hovering is the thought of the 250€+ import fee.
I don’t know where you are based, but 250€ sounds overly pessimistic (even though duties + import taxes sting hard, no question about it). I paid 170€ for import to Germany last June.
180 to NL
potentially insensitive tax comment
while i feel for my international friends, its pretty nuts that there is no tax of any kind on a domestic order. its $650 plus like $15 in shipping. thanks California
Weird, I’m in California and when I added to my cart and proceeded to checkout, I was charged around $50 for tax.
Gonna wait for the next batch, need to wait to assemble my Picotracker and see how much I like using a tracker before spending that much.
Tim is based in the LA area, so has to charge sales tax for shipping to CA, but not elsewhere in the US.
damn california taxes really are weird and confusing
This is not unique to California. In theory you are supposed to remit the sales tax for your state when ordering from out of state. In practice, only the merchant is going to make you do that, and they only get in trouble with their own state about it.
Got my pre-order in this morning! Anybody knows if the model:02 can power devices over the usb-c port? Would be sweet to use the 8mu midi controller without a power source.
As much as I love it, it’s not worth that kind of money bro. Where din you live?
I’d pay double, maybe more. Got one of the first 01’s and now have an 02 as well. Its totally changed the way I compose and I couldn’t imagine not having it. Probably even pick up a used 02 for insurance when the prices come down.
Even bought the hat, which fits great but snags my hair in the rivets when I take it off. I could imagine not having that.
enjoying my time with the model:02. i brought it to the gym this morning and had my first biking M8 sesh in a little over a year. i want to make a bunch of sample chains tonight so i can keep my instruments more contained. i quickly remembered that i dont love having all of my percussion spread across a ton of instruments.
realizing that i also need to brute force some chord theory into my brain so i can enjoy using hypersynth more. its so handy but i find myself banging my head against using hex for intervals. i just gotta actually use it more.
also holy shit the screen feels enormous compared to my memory of the model:01. awesome upgrade
