I haven’t noticed any change in the sound. I keep the ‘Input’ level in the mixer about the same as all my other internal tracks( just below clipping).
I’ve played with Sunvox on iPad and iPhone.
The M8’s buttons have always been more responsive to my fingers than IOS touchscreens. Then when you factor in the button combos for shortcuts, the speed of the workflow has to be experienced to be believed.
IOS apps certainly have potential for partnering with the M8 though.
PocketCHIP came with Sunvox preinstalled. It’s a real shame that project folded in the uncermonious way it did, had real promise.
True, a good mobile use for Sunvox(did it have any dedicated button/shortcut presets or tweaks for PocketChip?),
But I’m guessing if M8 software would be preinstalled on an Anbernic, it would also go under the radar of music producer audience.
A quick question, my friends:
I like using my good ol’ Circuit Tracks as a controller for the m8: comfy pads, scales, assignable encoders, battery powered…
One thing bothers me, tho: when I play a sliced loop with the pads, it’s gated… and I would like something more akin to one shot mode I guess. The best way I’ve found to emulate that is with an adsr env with max release… but it’s not really cutting it. Do you guys see a solution I’ve missed?
Edit: also, how cool would it be if we had a second filter, base width style, to get cleaner mix…?
Oh man, I hadn’t even thought about using my original Novation Circuit with this! It’s been sitting there unloved for a while.
I’ll post your question in the Discord. I wonder if a One Shot Mode has been considered, could be an FX command!
Oh, how long are the slices, and are you just talking about playing individual slices in full?
Yeah, Circuits are m8’s best m8s! And then there are the two poly synths as well (mine is loaded with the patches from the Board of Deluge guy).
So, yeah, let’s say I sample a piano loop from a track. I slice it in the audio editor, set it to “file”, play the pads… and it’s all gated. Or I set up an adsr env but I can hear the sound decaying if the slice is too long.
No need for a command because, as is, even without an env, slices always play to full length since you need an “OFF” to close the gate.
But yeah, a one shot option somewhere would be cool. Or even: it’s one shot by default, until you set an env or an “OFF” command…?
From the Discord: 'To keep a note running after releasing a finger from pads as you’d expect for one-shots, configure the MIDI controller to either A.) also send CC64 > 64 along with the note-on, or B.) somehow not send a note-off when releasing the pad.
(The note-offs when releasing the pads on the MIDI controller are what "gates the samples)’*
Oh wow, thanks for asking!
With the midi templates for the Tracks, I could assign an encoder to cc64, then narrow its range so it’s always around 64. Don’t know if all the cc values are sent with notes on. If not, I can enter up to 32 notes in the seq, plock the cc64 encoder on each step, then play the steps instead of the notes. Annoying but it might works.
Btw, I should join the Discord.
That’s interesting… on some instruments, note off would trigger the release phase of the envelope, right?
I know people have (good) reasons not to like discord, but it’s kinda the center of gravity for the m8 community. Fortunately, it’s been the kindest and most helpful discord I’ve ever been in
Yeah, I think this should happen when you sequence notes on the M8 itself, when you have the ADSR envelope set for the Sample instrument and put the new ‘OFF’ command in the sequencer step where you want the release phase to trigger. The Discord reply seems to be implying that Kuro’s observed behaviour is being caused by the MIDI messages coming from the Circuit Tracks.
It’s really good and helpful. The conversation moves pretty quickly at times, though - it’s great for in the moment stuff, but not great for searching for answers (as per usual with Discord), which is why having this thread is also really handy!
With this cable
You can have a single cable from your og circuit to m8 and not have to mess with the midi breakout cables. It is just awesome if you want to jam using pads on the m8 and have enough encoders to change parameters.
Re: more tick detail
There’s a way to get more tick resolution without changing the # of steps.
Go to GROOVE and set both numbers to 12 or 24 or whatever you like and then you get more ticks per beat
You can assign the drum envelope to volume which should play the sample etc and ignore note offs.
Whaaaaat! Will try it this afternoon, thanks @trash80
Been checking the M8 store on and off, always sold out. Anyone know when they’ll be for sale again?
there is one for sale in the marketplace section here!
