Wow, that sounds really cool. There’s so much sound design potential in this little tracker.
Yeah, stuff like that makes it worth the cost, imo, and way more than just an “8 mono track sequencer” like someone commented on reddit.
Oops, fixed!
Totally. It’s sad to see that people write it off as a toy due to its Game Boy-like appearance. It’s well worth its price tag.
Also important to keep in mind that its very small scale production by one very passionate individual, that’s always more expensive - and in some cases more interesting. Personally I’m not that interested in gear from larger manufacturers that need to play things safe.
I’m really perplexed people are saying it’s overpriced. It’s got stereo sample support, sampling, a ton of synthesis options, FX, midi sequencing, and all of that is battery powered on a device the size of a gameboy.
What device are they comparing it to to come to the conclusion it’s not good value?
The response to this was “I’m not comparing it to anything, I’m just saying it’s overpriced”… which basically made me bow out of the conversation
I think Ess hit the nail on the head; people see something small and think toy.
Totally agree. I don’t think at all that it’s overpriced (I’m from Barcelona and even with taxes I think it’s a really good prize for what it is)
I really like the FM sounds, it seems to hit the sweet spot between an throaty tx/dx synth and a buzzy ym2xxx. Does anyone know if it was based off of an existing synth?
@Ess woooooooah, sounds incredible, well done!
I know you can sample and slice with the m8, but can you edit slice points? Or does it slice by a set number and you’re done? 'cause I’m all about chopping weirdly.
It’s not based on anything - It’s a basic 4 OP 12 algorithm with each op having feedback. There is also a 2 pole lp/hp/bp/br filter and gain stage with clipping options to give it some more character.
Its evenly sliced based on the number of assigned slices. However all parameters are sequenceable and position parameters are relative to the slice (like start offset and length)
i may have missed the answer to this question in this thread but is it possible to export each track as separate wav for editing/mixing in a DAW?
yep
Wow.
could anybody explain more about the battery, all i’ve read is that its a 1200mAh.
Is it easy to access? spares easy to find?
come to think of it iv’e never seen a picture of the rear of the device.
i think thats been asked already in a longer question post in here …
how’d i miss this? the screen works as xy pad. so many clever things built into this.
It’s a common lipo pack (adafruit sells them), it can be replaced by opening up the unit with the 4 screws on the top.
After my OPZ suddenly failed me yesterday (lost a year worth of music), I pulled the trigger with the M8. The OPZ will be a nice (expensive) midi controller for it, but I see the M8 less frustrating in limitations.
Seriously, stereo samples with streaming, real synths, funky modulations (tables ) and a full featured sequencer, to me it’s more a competitor to the deluge than OPZ.
I know it’s not its primary goal, but how extensive are the midi controls? Can you program notes, alter values with CC or change patterns with midi?
Sorry to hear that!
The OP-Z is a great midi controller though… if I ever use a sequencer which I’m not to familiar with or have a hard time making melodies and chord progressions I always use the op-Z to record in midi patterns… the combination of size and ease of use (once you learn it) is unbeatable imo.
I went back to your opz instant autechre vid yesterday after digging out my opz again and saw you have loads of other opz vids. Shall be watching through them, saw you are using the uc4 which I also have so looking forward to that one.
Thanks for these
