M8 Tracker

The new 3.0. Beta is dope. With the new envelopes you can trigger them via other instruments and basically side chain.

The Hypersynth is also amazing.

Also the LFO s run twice as fast and smooth. So if you skim through the sample using LFO is much more smoother now.

Yeah, I just installed the new firmware a few hours ago and it’s an absolute blast. The new envelope options are so amazing, I’m actually a bit stunned. The drum envelope can really make a huge difference in how hard a kick drum sample cuts through the mix. And the follow envelope let’s you side chain everything to everything, it’s like a pocket bitwig now. Hypersynth can also produce some really nice bass sounds, even without changing the settings for the sub oscillator.

Uhh haven’t tried bass + the analog distorsion.

Tried to install the new beta with tyuploader but it failed and the m8 wonÂŽt power on now :frowning:

any ideas? its my first time updating, so maybe i did something wrong although I followed the instructions on trash80®s github

Damn, best of luck to you in getting it up and running again. I would download the latest official firmware from the Dirtywave Website. There are instructions about how to update in a Readme file. I think that there was a change with tyuploader/tyupdater sometime in the earlier m8 days, so maybe you followed some outdated instructions?

What do you mean by “failed”? Did you get an error message from TyUploader?

How/where to buy an m8? is there a waiting list?

I did get an error message - I don®t know the exact error anymore, but it was something like “transfer failed”

Best place to get updates is Trash80’s Patreon page.

To my knowledge, no waiting list; it’s first-come first serve when he opens orders again. He typically advertises when he does in advance on his Patreon.

From the manual:

The M8 is non-responsive after updating the firmware

Make sure to not use a USB hub when flashing the M8 firmware. Some hubs under cer- tain conditions cannot reliably transfer the firmware without issue.

  1. Gently insert a SIM card removal tool (or bent paper-clip, etc) into the center hole located on the bottom of the M8 about an inch below the serial number. You should feel a click as the reset button located inside actuates.
  2. Press the power button for 2 seconds to ensure unit is powered on and hold down the reset button for approximately 15 seconds.
  3. Remove the tool and a dim red light should appear though the USB port and audiojacks. After another 10 seconds the red light will turn off. The M8 is now ready for you to retry the firmware update process.

Aside from Patreon, you can also get on the mailing list on the Dirtywave website or join the discord and wait for a message in the announcements tab

thx for the reply, but after several tries I could not feel a click neither does a red light appear

Thnx for the answer! @sleepside @KF6GPE

If you’re not feeling a click, you might not be hitting the button – it’s pretty
teensy.

Also probably a good idea to email support@dirtywave.com.

decided to invest some more time in the last jam and work out on my arrangement skills so here’s this

The new RMX command is absolutely bonkers. I did not really understand what it did based on the description in the update log, but now that I got to play around with it, I get how incrediblely cool this is. It’s a bit like the tape track on the op-z for stutters and beat repeat effects, but can go absolutely crazy, as it can be put on multiple tracks completely independently.

So that’s what it does?
I got stuck at ADSR and sidechain and Hypersynth. Totally love the new firmware.

This command sounds awesome! I’d love to hear an example of this.

Unfortunately, I won’t have time to make a video in the coming days. This post a video of a guy playing around with RMX a bit around the 45 minute mark (but its in French):

I had issues like this.
The fail was due to not downloading the m8 file in “raw” format from the GitHub
