M8 Tracker

@Sugamo’s unit doesn’t have updated hardware though. I’m curious if this preorder price is going to be less than what it will sell for in stores or not.

I think shipping is due to it having a battery… it’s the same with Deluge. Products with batteries aren’t allowed longer then 72 hour shipping or something like that (risk of fire and what not)

Ah good point, that must be it. Still some pretty steep shipping costs, and I’ve seen a few.

This is bordering on half the price of a OP-1.

The price is reasonable without all the additional international export costs imo. It beats the shit out of the new Electribes and anything created by Teenage Engineering. This actually reminds me of the Monomachine in a lot of ways.

That’s good to hear - at least in the case of earbuds. Was wondering the same thing, although the website does say the audio output doubles as headphone out.

Still planning to get another one FWIW, not for the upgrades though.

I couldn’t resist, and preordered one. My birthday is in July so the timing works out well.

Is it possible to load a MIDI file into M8?

One IOS app that I like is Piano Motifs which is kind of a classically tinged riff generator that can save to MIDI file(s). It’d be fun to load one of those files into M8 then use M8 to develop the song some more… If not, not a big deal.

That’s how I feel as well !!! Seriously unsure about it ! It’s a lot more expensive than I am happy to spend (given the cost to import it to the UK)

immediate payment

Can someone explain to me how one guy can make such a cutting edge device like the M8 in 13 months, and sell it for $450, yet a company with the resources (and capital) of Elektron seems to be unable to bring to market an proper (i.e not just two superficial make-overs) update of an eight track sampling device it originally released 10 years ago, and which currently retails for $1499 - three times the price? I fully realise that the devices go about things in slightly different ways, but still.

What are they actually doing over there in Göteborg?

True, but that comparison actually shows the M8 price to be fair.

If you’d just showed me this device and what it can do, before I knew the price, I would have guessed it cost more than $450.

The output can drive headphones suitable in the 30ohm range. It’s a bit quiet but still works on my studio 250ohm headphones.

Yeah that’s a bit pricy! I tried to keep the price down as low as I can while trying to make ends meet. Hopefully in the future it will be localized to stores so import duties and the like are not paid by the end user. It really depends on the demand and I have had little clue as to what that looks like.

Nope. At least not currently. I imagine that might be better handled as an application. You can however record MIDI notes if the IOS app sends MIDI via that camera connection kit over USB.

Are we getting any type of discount for preordering, or will $450 be the retail price too?

I imagine it will be higher.

Every instrument parameter that has a visual “slider” as well as volumes on the mixer screen can be MIDI mapped.

Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions!

Ok, that’s a reasonable workaround as the app does indeed have an option to send MIDI in real time instead of always saving to a file. The dev added it after multiple requests.

The class-compliant USB port with MIDI will come in quite handy for this use case.

Tempted! There’s an LSDJ-sized hole in my life. What are people using as a carry case for this?
