Low-cost hardware synth for sound design? (filmmaking)

Hey everyone, Happy Friday!

What’s everyone’s recommend for a low-cost hardware synth (looking at you Behringer, Crave etc) for sound design potential, specifically for filmmaking? (risers, texture, blips, blops, drones, sub bass, high pitch ringing etc)

Thanks!

Presumably working on a computer? Maybe a good VST? They can do it all

Not totally low-cost, though…

any synth can do that.
low cost…behringer neutron, korg monologue.

Microfreak, 'cause analog synths are limited, even semi-modular and such sounds could be just not relevant (unless it’s a movie about minimal wave scene  )

HW korg modwave/wavestate/multipoly…best for filmmaking
mono synthesizers are extremely limited for filmmaking

hmmm… 0-coast and Strega? Maybe together with a Teenage Engineering PO 400 modular? Probably all together used for 900-1100€

or just Serum 2 and Infiltrator.

But for film scoring I’d 100% invest into an Expressive E’s Osmose

No, DAWless. Want a hardware synth.

Nice. Punchy enough? Always thought it was a bit lightweight.

Exactly, hence looking for recommends! So much choice out there. I don’t need a keybed (have a keystep Pro), so i can keep it to modules.

I’m interested - why do you say mono synths are limited for filmmaking?

Haha - low cost! I def don’t have this cash to splash. (wish i did!)

Behringer Grind with countless sounds and a reverb pedal (with mono in stereo out) that can handle line level.

Micromonsta 2. It’s a module, so you’re not paying for the keyboard again. Gorgeous sounding VA with plenty of oscillators for all your blips and bloops, FM-y bells, and noisy scratches. Polyphonic and bitimbral, so has lots of flexibility in the scoring department. And a reverb that is pure atmosphere. And it’s cheap!

Only problem is there’s a waiting list, but you see them pop up used every once in a while depending on your country of origin.

super low cost and crazy blip blops you could try korg monotron delay - If i remember correctly, Hainbach used it for some tension building in a live play or something

cool stuff for textures also and processing some audio through it

Deepmind 6 or 12

well then Id recommend you watching some YT-videos on semi modular synths (DFAM, model 15, kobol, neutron etc) and choose which character you like best as the ability of creating the sounds you need is given anyway

Roland s1?
