LIVEN 8bit warps

I got one for £135 from a fellow 'naut, an absolute steal. Love mine!

Guys give me a hand here: which one of the 3 to get?

I just picked up an 8bit warps and am liking it quite a bit. The sequencer/looper combination is surprisingly limited, yet deceptively powerful, all at the same time. It just has a different workflow to it that may turn some people off, but it sounds great and you could make some really interesting stuff with it. I got it for chiptune, but its FM capabilities and effects make it more versatile than that label would suggest. Posting here because it seems like it could pair nicely with the Model:Samples for the audio input track on the looper. Anyone got one?

I got my 8bit Warps in the mail today. Just going through presets so far and I have to say, playing this box makes me feel happy. I can just hear the sounds from the NES of my childhood and it makes me smile. I’ve wanted a chiptune synth for a long time but most of the boutique options are double the price of this, or more, so I’ve always held off.

I paid $200 for this one and I think I’m going to love this little guy. We’ll see, we all now how it is when you first get your hands on a piece of gear. But I don’t usually catch myself with a mindless smile on my face just from scrolling through presets.

Edit to add: It’s a lot smaller than I expected, which I like. I also expected it to feel cheap, but it does not. It’s very plastic, but it feels solid.

Necro bump - I kinda slept on Sonicware gear before, didn’t really pay much attention to it, but after getting Smpltrek decided to check out videos of their other stuff and added a Lofi12 and 8bit Warps to my portable setup, neither have arrived yet but very much looking forward to them.

Seems to remind me of earlier Elektron gear in some ways, although the styling isn’t quite as polished, and not quite as feature rich they sound very nice and I think I will enjoy exploring them.

Had a couple of days fiddling with it now, great little box! Quite a bit more versatile than I imagined, the looper is pretty dope and the sequencer is quite nice too. I think it sounds really nice and quite authentic for certain chip sounds, and it can do pretty decent regular (or not) synth sounds too.

I think there are a couple of missed opportunities with the features though:
No sync of LFO’s to sequencer.
LFO’s don’t go fast enough.
No 1 shot LFO.
No LFO delay.
ARP doesn’t lend itself to broken chords easily AFAICT.
No step copy/paste.
No sound locks.
Pitch sweep range and speeds are limited.
No filter envelope.
No pitch envelope though sweep can do some things, but not all.
No separate tuning for oscillators.
No midi CC for looper track volumes.
When looper button is active the loop tracks can be easily mixed but not the synth level without coming out of looper mode.
Not many fx and the tape fx is crap, mains hum and noise isn’t very tape like, I’d rather it just emulate tape saturation, which it doesn’t.

I doubt there will be any firmware updates as it has been out a while now, but if these things were added it would be even better I think.

But regardless I am very happy with it, and will use it in my portable setup quite a lot, it is a fun sofa box.
