This thing is pretty fun! I actually wasn’t sure I was going to like it at first. Lot’s of button pressing to learn at first. I was getting around on it though before too long. Definitely still getting the hang of it, but it’s getting fun also.
I had three loops in the looper, (beat, bass, chord hits) and played over if for a while.
I think it will be great as chip-tune backing as part of my setup, and less like a full chip-tune creation tool. That way I can just bring loops in and out while other instruments are playing.
Of course I’ve barely scratched the surface. We’ll see how it goes. Cool little box though. Glad I grabbed one.
@finalform & @J3RK, would you two take a look at the panel printing and see how crisp it is overall? Do you have any areas that are quite blurry where it looks like there was significant overprinting, or is it all nice & sharp?
It looks fairly crisp on mine. The particular plastic they used seems somewhat “sandy” for lack of better term. I could see how screening it may have been a process that needed to be perfected.
I would say it’s fine. No noticeable misprints. The ink has bled a tiny bit in places (the reversed out labels especially) but I know how hard these things are to get right, especially for a small company. (Make the ink too thin and it bleeds, make it too thick and it clogs the screen and fails to print.)
Ah thank you both for the photos and input, mine looks good too aside from a few very small imperfections at the bottom right corner. I think it’s not worth sending it back for a replacement, especially because I don’t want to cut into the amount of profit they made on my unit, can’t be very much at the KS price. Mine was one of the first units and it’s barely noticeable. I love this thing! It’s pretty bananas how much they’ve fit in for the cost!
Just ordered one of these late last week. Already here, from Japan. Crazy.
SO. MUCH. FUN.
I am trying to figure out a way to see what the Memory presets are set to, so I can figure out what Waveforms are used. I can’t seem to figure out how they were made, when I find a Memory preset I really like.
Is there any way to find out, other than comparing the sound before you tweak, to after?
Just found myself one for not much money at all on Reverb. I guess now is when the not-quite-what-I-expected-when-I-pre-ordered-on-Kickstarter 8bits start hitting the market. Very excited to jump on the zippy zappy laser powered bandwagon with this one.
Just got one- really fun and for the price I think it’s a no brainer.
I tried plugging it into a speaker, I used the headphone jack and the line out, both incredible quiet, even at max volume on it and on the mixer. Anyone else experience this? I put the gain up too on the machine.
I haven’t had mine out for over a month and now I’ve completely forgotten how the damn thing works… especially the sequencer. DN midi sequencer to the rescue.
Been almost a year since the last post. Anybody still loving their 8bit Warp? I’ve only just discovered this thing, seems like a digital lofi version of A4. (Which seems awesome) Is that a fair assessment? Anybody recommend it?
Also for any owners-
Can you plock 4 tracks of drum sounds like A4 or maybe rather more like Monologue since you can’t insert saved sounds per step?
Are the FX global or per track?
Any cool jams to share?
The 8bit Warps only has one active synth track; it also has a looper with multiple tracks that can be recorded into from the synth track and looped live. I think the best thing is to have you read the manual located here for answers to your questions.
I see, so less like an elektron box and more like a single synth with an onboard 4 track tape recorder. Still pretty cool though.
Can the 4 loops be all recorded at different lengths for polyrhythmic melodies?
And I still don’t understand if the effects are recorded into the looper as played on a track by track basis? Or they are just added globally at the very end of the audio chain across all tracks? Or judging from the little schematic drawing the first effect slot is by track but the reverb is global?
The list price for these is $199 new on Amazon. So wtf is up with everyone asking $230 plus shipping used. Used gear prices for table top synths are annoying as f#ck right now.
