Live looping with Flex - not working?

I’m trying to do some live looping in the style of the Machinedrum…

I want track 1 to be the live input, and I want track 2 to be a continuous sampled loop of track 1 that is constantly updated every 4 bars or so…

I have a record trig set on beat 1 to record input AB and I have the track set as Flex and to be playing that record buffer, but it just plays a tiny clip and then there is silence. I can see the record buffer being written and then erased as it loops but it never seems to play what it is in the buffer. If I move the play trig to the middle of the bar, it works but then it is off time with my live input.

Basically I just want to be able to crossfade between a live input and a sliced up or parameter locked version of the live input. This was super easy to do on the machinedrum and I’m not really sure why it’s not playing the audio that has been recorded. It seems like it is erasing it before it plays it…

I don’t want to use the pickup machines because you cannot sequence trigs w/ it.

Any ideas? I’m sure I’m missing something as I’m pretty new to the octatrack but this seems like a fairly simple function and not sure why it’s not playing the recorded audio.

Thanks!

Do you have the pitch raised on the flex playback?
Also sometimes after certain combinations of doing things some tempo attributes can get attached to a buffer that are no longer correct. Try going in the attributes section of the audio editor and perform a “clear slot” on track one, it will wipe tempo attributes and be updated on next recording…
What you want to achieve definitely works, it’s a main part of my project…

You have the record trig and the playback trig on the same step? I think that I remember reading somewhere that in that case the sample trig will actually try to play the sample before it is recorded, which sounds like what you are seeing. You might try using micro timing the trigs so that the record trig happens just before the sample (playback) trig.

This thread also suggested using QPL, but I’m not sure I have wrapped my brain around that one yet.

Recorder/playback trig on the same step will play the audio that is being sampled at the same time as long as your recording inputs and and src3 is set to “-”. :ecstatic:
