LFOs being ignored when recording into Ableton

Hey guys,
I’m having a strange issue when recording into Ableton with Overbridge: All the LFOs are being overridden, or rather simply not applied. From what I read on other posts here this can be the case with panning as everything is imported in mono, but everything else? E.g. a percussion decay.
I checked that the FX wasn’t muted, although that’s probably not the issue.
Anything I’m missing? Has this happened to you? Quite annoying as you miss a fair bit of sound design if the LFOs are left out.
Thanks in advance!
Jonny

Hey Jonny,

When you say a ‘percussion decay’, do you mean delay?

If that’s the case then I’d assume you’re monitoring the individual tracks which wouldn’t include effects (as they’re sends, so only captured on the FX channel or the master), but if it’s the decay (as in the amp or filter envelope) then there’s no reason I can think of that the LFO’s wouldn’t be running when recording. If the 'takt were getting it’s clock from Ableton it could impact the timing of the LFO’s, but it would also impact the BPM so that would be obvious. Is the 'takt receiving MIDI from any source? I’d rule that out too.

If the LFO is pointed at an effect like delay, you’d only hear the impact on the FX stem. If you’re modulating the parameters of a sound, that should print to the track stem. Can you hear the modulation when monitoring with headphones straight from the device with the track soloed?

Is it a track LFO or trig locked LFO?

Hey Nate and all,

I meant the actual decay and other parameters I’m playing around with on the synth with LFOs. I’m using overbridge and in the vst it’s set to clock + transport. The Syntakt is set to receive for clock, transport and prog ch, but I can’t imagine that affecting the actual sounds and LFOs?

I also noticed that if you alter the LEV for the volume of each track, the volume recorded is still at a 100. So all the mixing you do for tracks is ignored, unless you alter the volume on the actual amp of the track. Is this normal? Somehow I thought overdrive would record everything as it is into Ableton, except for effects.

I think that’s normal. You should hear the main mix (main outputs) stem impacted by changes in pattern or track level, but I’m pretty sure overbridge treats stems as a line level output.

I’m almost 100% that it’s a standard behavior, can you confirm that it does impact the master track stem? Because that was my experience in the past.

This might be a factor, although I’m not 100% how…

Try recording in with the clock and transport set locally on the 'takt and see if that makes a difference, it would at least rule it out. I’d also make sure it’s not a MIDI signal of some kind - disabled outbound MIDI in Ableton for that device.

As @shigginpit mentions that is indeed normal regarding the volumes - by using overbridge you’re choosing to ‘do the mix’ in Ableton rather than on the 'takt.

Try using standalone app for the simplest test of recording the audio streams.
