Kurzweil K2061/88

Looks like Kurzweil showed up to NAMM and no one made any videos playing this thing but it looks like it’s going to be a cheaper version of the K2700 with just a bit less factory memory and user flash memory.

And dang does it look good compared to the K2700.

It’s going to come with more synthesizer oriented presets and a reworked K2000 patch library with also being able to load older K2 programs.

Limited info or pictures on the Kurz website really hope they release this thing by the end of the year if it was announced in febuary.

If you click “Tech Specs” on this page you can see more specs than the kurzweil website shows. Don’t know if it’s speculation or not .

And here is what it sounds like !

Sigh. Why again no any desktop or module version for the folks curious (kurious?) about VAST

Yeah I’m upset too that’s why I haven’t bought a 2700 , but the k2061 will be a lot cheaper and smaller. Maybe they will make a rack version/ a lot of other people online in music forums ask the same question. I miss my k2600R but I had to sell it to buy some baby stuff for the house for my first baby ! Times are hard !

I don’t own any keyboards so the smaller 61 key is more than happy to join my lineup. would love to finally learn how to play keys!

There hasn’t been any new info on this since announced

Just those extra specs I posted…

And from this video I can see the audio inputs.

The demos are so good tho idk I’m happy to wait because the K2700 looks like every other workstation with blue LEDs Under the knobs and silicone buttons.

I just wanted to make a post to see if anyone else was just as excited as me I found out about this announcement just last week ahaha

looks pretty awesome. i too would like a desktop module but i’m sure the KB is fast to navigate and edit w/all the controllers. specs look good. VAST is awesome and has always been ahead of its time. it really is a multi-modular synthesizer under the hood w/embedded FX and modulation. deep as deep gets.

I always come back to these legendary patches by Acriel

The Older kurzweils had partials for oscillators you could make some FM like tones but will be super powerful running 6op FM into VAST. Reading the k2700 manual Fm section it has a lot of parameters I’m not used to seeing in Expansive FM synthesizers. So that means a lot of control!
A desktop unit with more knobs would be dope one of the coolest part about kurzweil midi chart is that there are a lot of free assignable midi CCs.

Would be interesting for it to have inputs when the 2700 doesn’t

 I see inputs?
Ahahaa from the k2700 page on the kurz website

Oh damn. I just saw someone mention that it can’t sample so maybe that’s just for monitoring

I’ll read the manual tonight and get back to you on that I was certain it said you can run audio thru the FX and the new KDfX sound really good and can do some chains.

yeah no sampling or live pass thru to the VAST system like the 2500 and 2600 models in the past. Not a dealbreaker for me and I have my M8 tracker and Waldorf iridium as audio input samplers and can record loops really fast with those then load the samples up into the kurz. But yeah live audio into VAST would be dope. The k2000 only had 64MB of user sample recording memory….

I was planning to purchase a Kurzweil PC4-7 a few months ago, but decided to wait for the K2061. Hopefully, a definitive release date is announced soon.

Dang kurzweil still hasn’t released more info on their website or give a release date ahhhhhhh
I’ve been thinking about getting a PC4-7 then selling it and buying a k2061 when it comes out but that’s a lot of hassle toooo. Meanwhile check out my newly acquired K2vx !

Finally, updated information from Kurzweil:

It’s just a slightly cheaper 2700 it seems. I’m a 2700 owner - it’s a lovely sound for sure but editing it is pretty painful for 2025. A shame given the power it has.

Synths like the Kurzweil would certainly benefit from the Electra One controller/programmer.

For the 61-key version, I am expecting a street price to be no higher than $2,250. Hopefully, presales or shipments are available during or shortly after NAMM.

Kurzweil is working on a software editor for Mac, PC, and iPad to help with patch creation.

4 audio outputs? all that power + fx and just 4 outs? USB is midi only. all the other 1/4 jacks are pedals etc and a couple inputs for live input processing. seems under spec’d in the i/o dept.
