Korg OPSIX

I bought from Amazon through Sam ash the first day and it has yet to ship. Makes me nervous that they’ll cancel my order or something because the price went back up on Amazon

Why would they do a MKII when the MKI is basically brand new? Jukka you have good insight but this is just not realistic by any stretch of the imagination.

And polyphonic aftertouch!

I ordered fairly early on day one but I’ve just assumed that it won’t ship for at least a couple weeks. Better for my sanity lol

There are indications of the Opsix being discontinued. If those indications are true then either they’ve deemed it a failure and won’t return to it or they’re making a new and improved version.

They might make a 61 key SE version, but I do not think it is realistic to believe that they will release a MKII in the same/similar form factor. If they were to release a larger SE version, it wouldn’t be cause for them to blow it out at such a reduced price; a modest price drop would be enough, especially if the current version is selling well, or even decently. If they’re being sold even at a modest rate, at the current price, surely it would be fine to let the stock run out naturally. All logic points to this not selling well enough, or some other issue, not an incoming MKII in the same form factor. Even if they did release a version that was identical aside from an improved keybed with aftertouch, it STILL wouldn’t precipitate this sort of price drop.

Corporate “logic” ?

Ryan explained the facts for the premise i am basing this on well.

Replying to Hawk.
I have no idea why it was $330 instead of $450, and why no sale in the rest of the world. A lot around this is perplexing.

Here’s a simple explanation for making a new version — Sometimes you need to re-engineer because of parts shortages, and figure that while you’re at it you’ll make some other changes too. There are many other possible explanations.

Glad Korg decided to sell these ( at cost ?) and get their money back rather than running over these units with a construction vehicle.

While waiting on my cheap opsix to ship, I had a good read of the manual, and downloaded the opsix native plug-in to demo.

Wow, how did I sleep on this thing? In so many ways this is what I was hoping to get out of a Nord Modular G2 at 1/6th the price.

Didn’t realize the operator modes were per operator. So incredibly deep. Combine the plug-in with Ableton Suite for more modulation and this synth is even more insanely deep. Love all the keytrack options sprinkled throughout the synth.

Those HD Saws are so crispy, too. Dub techno heaven.
No chord memory was my only hesitation, but with 6 operators on algo 32, you can make your own chords easily. I do this with my Pro 2.

Also, the parameter menu / display system on (what I’ve seen of) the hardware is very Elektron-esque. Nice bonus. Can’t wait for it to arrive. And I’ll def do the plug-in crossgrade deal.

i hate everyone in this thread.

I’ve read this more often in this thread and elsewhere. Is it so bad, for example compared to a Minilogue XD? I found the XD very solidly built with the metal casing and wooden rear end, and with one of the best “smaller keys” keybeds around.

Sorry if someone mentioned this already, but is the Opsix still available anywhere for the discount price of $330? I’m trying every store I’m aware of, and it’s either listed at original full price, or out of stock. Feel free to DM me if you don’t want to blow up your favorite spot.

Keyboard is ok if you need it for preview/programming/simple notes. If you intend to play chords or some melodic stuff more complex than octave bass sequence, it’s not very good, but not a disaster.

Build quaility is ok, but does not feel ‘classy’, even Monologue looks and feels better. Early adopters asked why all this plastic costed $800…

The build isn’t bad at all. I owned one until February and it felt fine. It’s very light, and made of plastic, but the knobs and buttons felt good enough. I wouldn’t go chucking it down a flight of stairs, but it doesn’t feel like it will disintegrate like, say a TD-3. The keys aren’t great - very squishy and springy, but I don’t mind them. The minimal resistance and easy knobs is less painful for my hands and wrists.

I don’t really understand the complaints against this Korg keybed or the Keysteps.

It clearly isn’t a Fatar keybed, but I wouldn’t call the keybed in the Wavestate (which should be the same as the OPSIX - mine has yet to arrive) bad. Same with the Keystep 37.

The only keys I’d call bad are the Korg Nanokey mk1 and maybe the CME XKey. The Nanokey was actually bad - the few bits of metal were almost literally butter soft at room temperature and deformed easily. The XKey wasn’t pleasant to play, but it is an unconventional keyboard and I knew that going in, so I can’t really fault it.

I’m sure the OPSIX’s keybed will be fine. If you’ve got amazing key chops, you probably have a master keyboard already. If not, go look for an EX5 or other under-loved workstation from yesterday.

The only reason I didn’t get an opsix initially is because I have a Wavestate which is one of my favorite synths and didn’t want to get another synth with a similar form-factor. I got the opsix native software last month when it was 25% off. When I saw the unbelievable opsix sale yesterday I got one immediately. Very mysterious sale!

There should be a new EU trade regulation that synth blow-outs anywhere else on the planet set the new RRP in the EU.

Is the 450 million marketplace that is the home of electronic music not equally deserving of some love from Korg? Feeling more than a bit let down that a smaller market like our friends in the US is getting the discount goodies… but the EU can go whistle.
