Korg nts-3 kaoss pad

I wonder if Korg’s corporate heart isn’t really in the whole logueSDK concept any more given that the NTS-4 mixer reportedly won’t support logueSDK. Although the Microkorg 2 v2 suggests otherwise.

Totally agree that you could be compenstated, but the Logue ecosystem has always felt so… not quite an ecosystem. If they want to encourage development, I would hope they would make it easier to find, distribute and install these extensions. If you’re selling 10 units, why would you ever do this again? There’s no way for it to be sustainable unless you have the recognition of sinevibes.

They have a couple of devs now that own it (Logue SDK) and are present in the community! Obviously Korg is Korg and their product/project ongoings are pretty opaque, but there are bugfixes in the testing pipeline, and they accept feature requests to a small degree even if getting things prioritized is hard.

It’s better now than it has been the last few years, now we just need to convince their marketing department that logue plugins exists and are cool

That’s encouraging! There is part of me that suspects the report of the NTS-4 not supporting the SDK was an error, because it seems like such a no-brainer for your NTS performance mixer to support your NTS performance effects. But I say that as a lay person.

THAT might still be the case, maybe there’s room for it to be added like with the mkmk2. But they’re tight lipped about that. The SDK itself isn’t going away though, and they seem to be working on something :man_shrugging:t2:

I think the issue is mostly with perception and positioning, plus the lack of visible commitment from Big K (Korg). The devices that mostly people get, the cheapest one’s, like the NTS-1 are mor like testbeds and development kits, … an arduino for DSP? What happens is that they are seen as toys instead of serious synthesizers, and hence people expect they just run a patch or preset. This is luckily better for the MicroKorg2 V2, but perhaps a little too late to make an impact. This NTS-4 announcement has confused people about their commitment. It is likely the same hardware as the DrumLogue and MicroKorg2, the i.MX6. As also in the microAUDIO interfaces! They could have several devices that can run Logue, … if only

The SDK will not go away, and to ensure it works beyond Big K, I even created my own runtime! //music.gbraad.nl/regroovelizer/ as I intended to create my own Android/RasPi based Kaosspad-like tool. Issue is, the units are 32bits only, and I learned a lot about the inconsistencies of the platform. I still want to reverse engineer this further, and perhaps add support o the microAUDIO at some point. Though honestly, it will not be my first choice to target. I am glad I know it now, as I learned a lot; have a great build pipeline to create effects, test them in the browser, and create plugins from. In future I rather look at VST/AU, Schwung or other stuff.

I am a bit more pessimistic than DavidL ;-), maybe because of what happened. Regardless, I know these people, I create effects and share knowledge… and if they show merits, I share too. At the moment the community are trying to see how we can improve this. Better website, documentation, …. hoping also the noise will make Big K reconsider for the NTS-4 ?

I’m not hopeful, but would be brilliant to have the sinevibes effects on this!

Hi guys, I’ve created a few plugins/effects for the NTS-3 Kaoss Pad

Have fun and let me know what you think!

Cheers :+1::musical_note::notes:

You had me at Zammo’s Stash. Any audio examples of these?

A few have videos, but i really need to make more! :slightly_smiling_face:

These are incredible and I’ve not heard a single demo!

This almost makes me want me to dust off my NTS-3 again

Thanks a lot dude!

Love the names and images! A good excuse to dust off the old kaoss pad. Please do link to your YouTube/other demos if you have them

The cowbell tonks on swipe… Don’t ask me how I know, but thought it was a great suggestion. Most important, have fun with the as they last longer than a bottle of water/beer.

Sinevibes can only dream of having artwork as good as this!

I love the idea of the reese bass synth. Can you play it with a midi keyboard, or only using the pad?

thx! the nts-3 has very little support for midi, just clock afaik. ive split the pad into an octave, root note can be set. give it a go, I’ve set most of the plugins/effects to “Pay what you want”

Ah that’s a shame, it seems like a lot of people have made/ported synth voices for the NTS-3, it would be nice to be able to play/sequence them externally, but to be fair to Korg it’s a bit mad to buy an Kaoss Pad and expect it to be a synth, so I can’t really complain!

I’ll check it out later on, thanks.

Edit: I just checked and it looks like oscillators are generally made for the NTS-1, Prologue etc., so I’m wrong there

yes, I’ve made a few synths. (check out khord and dominator) but I guess its primarily targeted towards effects and dsp. you’ll find a variety of these in my collection. theres also a couple of experimental drone synths that are fun.

Theres a cheap “Grab The Lot” bundle, to download them all.

I had thought of making some more soon, but the userbase is very small and I found it impossible to market/advertise these, so hardly anyone has discovered them.

NTS3 only does tempo sync AFAIK, and of course CC/NRPN for the parameters. It does not process note on or note off.

This I resolved by adding a sequencer that can be preprogrammed, and willing to share this code with others to make this a standard approach, but …there is no notion of a start/stop over midi; only by parameter change.
