It’s constantly recording live sound, then processes that sound through various algorithms – repeat, robotize, time stretch, a vinyl-style stop, and more. You customize the four algorithms you want, then trigger via the four zones on the XY pad, with up to 9 algorithms for each zone.
And then the are the big features in V1.1. Sinevibes added three new algorithms: Reverse, Rewind, and Scratch, plus revised default settings (loop, reverse, stretch, and stop).
OK - so I have had a few breakthroughs in the last 48hrs. I have been running my Perkons headphone out into the NTS-3 and then my headphones into the NTS-3. I am using HD650’s and despite the higher impedance this little unit handles them just about.
I found a superb effect using Isolator and Delay which can create superb stereo transitions. Just a few tweaks to up the FX Release time, bring down the depth and it’s great for changing Perkons patterns.
I have to say I am really starting to see how powerful this is and its such great value for money. I just wish they had programmed the reverbs better!
The more I use it, the more I think that its strength lies in its tweakability using Korg Kontrol Editor.
The FX themselves might not be the best - although they do their job pretty well most of the time - but it’s great to be able to chain FX slots as you wish, and assign anything to either X, Y or depth (or combinations of those). As far as I know, you could not do that with earlier KP’s.
And, yeah, for this price and form factor.
A bonus would be more user-designed effects - like Sinevibe’s - because I imagine they could go pretty wild with so much flexibility. I’m sorry I don’t know anything about programming.
anyone else having an issue with too low an input/output level when running as a parallel send/return?
trying to use this for DJing and have tried two different mixers, but I can’t get the output loud enough without clipping/distorting.
I’ve tried both decreasing and increasing the input gain. Decreasing stops it from distorting but then the output is way too low, even at max send/return. Then to compensate I’ve tried boosting the output of several different FX modules that have it as a parameter (delay, compressor, etc.) but once it gets to a level where it’s audible over the dry track, it starts distoring/clipping again.
oh and I have all modules and the main unit set to 100% wet.
hey thanks. was hoping to avoid that, as the whole point of getting the NTS-3 was to have a more portable DJ FX setup for gigging
both mixers have never had a problem with return levels of any other FX, so it’s for sure disappointing. and spare channel isn’t an option unfortunately
I’m giving up on this thing, I’ve tried several times since I got it ~1 year ago to use it as a send multi-effect, and it’s never worked out.
It’s too hard to know what parameters you are changing with the pad or even which effect in the chain you are updating. The levels seem really off with the line out being whisper quiet. The final straw is it repeatedly crashing and blasting white noise at full volume into my right ear.
How viable is the Korg NTS3 as an end of chain master fx unit? Noise? Gain staging? Stereo imaging? I was considering this as cheap and small live fx for my setup.
The one thing you have to know is that there is a very subtle but audible noise when you switch preset. I wouldn’t use it seriously as an end of chain device unless you plan on always using the same preset.
Guys, please leave links to download presets for the NTS-3. SineVibes is charging too much for their effects collection, more than the device itself. I’m just a factory worker, and I need a little fun after work.
