Korg Multi/Poly

Still waiting for an MS2000 reissue.

I jumped for my volume as well.

Virus is still the winner, but here the competition is strong. The price is 200 points more than needed though

Who’s going to let them know, there’s a typo in the price! Someone’s got to double-check their type-setting, that 6 is upside-down.

On the off-chance that’s a mistake, maybe I’ll catch this for less than $400 as a refurbished model in the future.

Hot take: All the recent flagship korgs - Opsix, Wavestate, Modwave, Multi/Poly sound kind of similar to me. Is this due to the filters, or because demos usually have the reverb dialed up to 11? Or maybe I’m slowly going deaf? :troll:

That puzzles me too. Good virtual analog is easily available on any laptop or IOS device, for those who desire it.

It’s interesting to watch the discussion at Keyboard Corner, more of a keyboard-players-in-bands forum, where some people seem to think the Multi Poly sounds fine, responding favorably to the marketing as some kind of newer-better MonoPoly reissue. But would they spend $900 for it? They’re usually rompler people.

For those of us more interested in sitting home and tone-painting with our synths, I’m not sure what the Multi Poly would do for us. It seems to have the same general tone color (converters, fx, etc.) as its 3 octave sibs, nothing distinctive about the sound—and with fewer of the unique synthesis possibilities of the Opsix or Wavestate.

Since the Prologue failed to make it big, Korg has apparently joined Roland and Yamaha in fleeing from releasing real analog or digital/analog hybrids. Drumlogue appears to be getting blown out now, which would leave only the Minilogue and Volcas. Too bad.

In your opinion is that kind of missing here? Is it missing for each independent voice?

I too have played a real Mono/Poly being triggered from an external source and wow. Just wow.

Rubbing my hands together in anticipation of the vst… I like the korg sound a lot but the premium hardware is well out of my reach…

I really like how Korg’s synths sound, and this is pretty darn fully-featured. I don’t need keys so I’d wait for a module version before considering it, and realistically I likely wouldn’t want to use something as complex as this or Modwave, but it’s really cool and I’m glad it exists.

Watching Loopop’s video on this now. What a gift Loopop is to the world! I have a ModWave OG and have been waiting to trade in towards a MK2 Module, but this looks really appealing since the things I love about the MW are carried over to the M/P while adding stuff that looks very interesting. The varietyo filter drives in the VCA. One of my favorite things about the Hydra line is the drives and this M/P has even more options it seems. I’m really curious if they’re going to put out a module version. I would order one right now if that was the case.

I totally agree with you! I know some people throw shade at KORG, but I think they are really trying to do some innovative stuff. Do they always hit the mark? Probably not, but Tom Waits didn’t put out 100% bangers, but at least he was willing to be creative.

We have a multitude of analog and digital synths on the market. Why do we need another analog modeling synth?

Because some of us like them?

Yeah, these controls on the Mono/Poly panel are just the most fun.

Looks like it’s not the same key bed as the previous models in the line.

Yes, they have similar vibe indeed, but irl or in PC they sound more solid. Maybe the reverb is weak or just easy to make a crumbling sound texture

I wonder if they’ve stepped up the keybeds in general on the most recent instruments? The keys on the Mikrokorg2 feel surprisingly good as well.

That would be cool!

Clear insight whatever the source is always a gift.

I’ve noticed from other people’s comments on Loopop, that they too like to go to his Pros & Cons section. This one is good too. The preset he shows there with the wide variety of very musical variations, with the several sets of controls may be enough alone to justify the cost of admission on this synth. Be interested to see how easy it is to make your own patches like this.

On the cons he’s right : a color screen like on the Micro Korg 2 would have been nice.

Big agree on the screen. Accurate Beats said if it had the MicroKorg screen and more keys they would’ve knocked it out of the park for sure. I still really struggle with sound design on the ModWave due to the screen.

Edit: If this thing had poly AT it would be a serious contender with my Hydra.
